G'Day Ripp, yes mate, I imagine they are.
I would like to hunt Kodiak Island before my Use By date expires.
For both Brown Bear and Mtn Goat. Time will tell, if this occurs....

Thanks for posting Ripp.

A mate is going back for his third attempt to get a Brown bear in Alaska.
For that money he has spent I could do 2 Cull Elephant hunts. He wants his bear. Mind you a brown bear hunt in Eastern Russia/Siberia might eventuate.

Different strokes I guess. I hunt where we have LOTS of grizzlies. In fact it's very rare for me to go out and not see grizzly bears.
But I have never had any desire to hunt them.

Shoot them maybe, if I ever feel a need. So far they have not bothered me.

But I have seen them kill livestock and I was quite close to the hunter back in 1998 or 1999 that was in the news when he got his arm torn loose. Many of the outdoor magazines had articles about that attack. It was on Horse Creek Wyoming about 15 miles NW of Dubois. Some of you may remember it.

I was so close I heard the screams and the shot. I was there when the Wardens and Federal rangers got there and evacuated him. It was a bloody mess for sure, and the alarming things was that the Feds and Sheriff's deputies followed the bear up the creek for a few miles and lost it. I was never found. A wounded grizzle right in your area is not something that makes you feel very secure. I have to believe it died from the wound because there never was another attack in that area that year.

I have seen what they can do with my one eyes. So I have a healthy respect for them (Fear may be a better word at times)

I never go into that area without being armed with my 454 Casull, spray and usually a large rifle too, even if I am only going wood cutting. If I am not hunting, I can't have the rifle in my hands at all times, but it's never more then about 6 feet away.

I have mixed feeling about grizzlies. I love and hate seeing them. They are magnificent. But lack of game management in the USA and in Western Wyoming particularly has resulted in there being way too many of them.

They are not as bad as wolves when it comes to killing all the other game, but they are a problem to be sure.

Would love to see a few but no real desire to hunt one. Impressive animal.

I'm that mate of Rule 303's who took 3 hunts to get my Brownie. Of all my hunts ...and this is a big call. it is my most memorable.. If I only had one hunt left in me it would be another Brown Bear hunt.

My only hunt up there for bear happened after I had done a self-guided caribou hunt.. shot 2 caribou and a wolf the first two days I was able to hunt.. put out my tarp to let the plane know I was done.. got offered a brown bear cancellation hunt when they picked me up.. as it was right after 9-11, people were scared to fly. Two days later I killed a 9ft brown bear.. NOT a monster, but not small either..average..but man was I happy.. great adventure, scenery, was my first time in Alaska.. cool fall days.. all nice weather (which is really unusual).. and all done in 5 days.. doesn't get much better than that..

I actually plan to do that one day..probably after I get my new F250 diesel ..

Not sure what happened last time I entered Canada they checked me out like I was a wanted criminal..2hrs 45 min..

Have nothing on my record than speeding tickets..they never found whatever they were looking for ...it worked..haven't been back..

Interesting indeed.
Tracy and I stopped at the Niagara US border crossing, in Southern Ontario, trailer in tow, said we were headed to Virginia to visit friends, they up to North Dakota, then Bozeman Montana and home - no meat or fruit - and on our way. didn't even get out of the truck.

When we returned, the gal at the Cdn. crossing just South of Trail, BC asked how long away? answer 1 month What bought? Answer 4 new truck tires - "Thanks & Welcome Home".

You must look "shifty" or something - . Just the luck of the draw, I guess.
