I have an Aimpoint that I picked up a couple new batteries for, a week or so ago. I do not know what I want to do with it, just thought I'd see if it still worked. Quite a number of those model 46 Husqvarna 9.3's that came out of Denmark or Sweden, have Aimpoints on them. Must be popular in the tight bush, for their moose.

Thanks for posting mchughcb. Nice work with the Blaser.
The Aimpoints a great sight. Stuff all parallax and if the dot is on target you are on target even if the dot does not appear to be central in the scope. Probably have to be the quickest sight going. If you can see the target and know your hold over you can, like open sights of old, shoot at any distance. Use to regularly shoot the 500 mt rams at Little river with the 35Whelan using an early Aimpont.

Yep Trying to film has caused a fair number of missed hunting opportunities. Hard to get both right.

From what I see, read and hear, they are practically indestructible...so, perfect fit for a .416...have a 1.75-6 VX-3 on one of mine..the others have a Zeiss and older model Swaro..this might be a better choice for the thick stuff...

Just take extra batteries. The one I have is a bit dull. I think one of the small sights the guys use on their IPSC guns might be better than the Aimpoint, at least better than the Aimpoint I have - which is an old one.

LOL! Good to here Mchughcb!
As to Aimpoint battery life, probably about 8 to 10 years ago (?), Aimpoint changed over to a new ??? electronic system in their red dot sights. This gave the batteries 5,000 hours (?) of battery life.
I have had a couple of their Comp C3 sights on hunting rifles for years now, and I'm yet to replace the original installed battery.
Hope that helps

I run an Aimpoint 9000L on my 416Rigby. They have various sized sights. Don't seem to notice the sight tube on mine H2 I have.
Battery life is long, as in years if left on the lowest setting. The Swedes originally had them designed to work on 20mm anti aircraft cannons. Don't know if they still that tough but some of the test I have seen them put through would indicate they are.

Good shooting, the "Special Snap" is a favorite of event of mine, great fun. It also tests the feeding of your rifle.
One day we will have to meet up as I shoot at the same shoots.

Ripp, the newer models, as in the last ten years or so are superb. They have their own patented LED which can be turned down to a very small dull dot so that you can shoot at longer distances, or up very bright for use during a sunny day with a light background. The battery life is 50000 hours, not 5000. They are very well made, light weight and as they are shorter than a normal scope they also have superb eye relief and give you heaps of room to cycle the bolt rapidly without hitting the scope. I use a H30L for hunting and a H34L for competitions. You will not get on target quicker with any other optical device than an Aimpoint. Once you have used one of the reflex and red dot sights from other manufacturers their products will seem pretty poor in comparison. Of course the Aimpoint scopes are not much good after about 150 yards max. but they are very usable out to 100 yards. I love them.

Thank you for the info...I thought I had read earlier that they were practically indestructible and had amazingly long battery life...
Might have to consider getting one for one of my .416's...
Thanks again

Obviously longer than my 20 year old Pro Point! Yeah el-cheapo Pro Point - just checked - thought it was an AimPoint. It does take a 3volt Lithium-Ion battery, though.
Seems every 4 or 5 years I look at it, the battery is dead.

Have to disagree about the 150mts. I have used them to 500mts. Like old iron sights, if you can see the target and know your hold over you can hit it. The originals on Anti Aircraft cannons would be used at more than 500mts.

2MoA dot wound right down is 60mm at 100m, 120 at 200 and 180 at 300m. If you are using a 416 on deer at 300 then chances are you will connect and it will be lethal.

Sure you can hit things out to 500 meters but I am talking about killing game animals ethically. Accurate heart/lung shots on a Fallow deer for instance is quite difficult with 1 to 1 magnification at 150 to 200 yards, as it is with open sights. Classic rifles often had sights to 500 or even 1000 yards but that doesn't mean that you could accurately hit the vitals of an animal. The stories of hunters in those days is also filled with tales of animals needing many shots to be killed and follow-ups lasting many hours tracking wounded game that were gut shot etc. If they were so good at 200 yards than no one would bother buying a scope with magnification which costs more and is heavier. I hunt a lot with an Aimpoint for deer and find them fantastic but I limit my shots to 150 yards or there abouts. If you feel comfortable that you can take longer shots accurately than by all means go ahead. I must say that I prefer to stalk in as close as possible rather than long shots anyway, but that's just me.

Interesting video. Has made me think. Thanks for posting.
Good to see a .416 being used for the special snap. I have always used by .375 H&H. A lot of times it seems most guys go for the lightest calibre they can, which I believe the minimum is the .330 calibre and up. (?)
Red dot sights are point penalised though aren't they?
Good quick shooting with it.
A 2 MOA sight might be an answer for a problem I still have solved. For my Tikka 7x65R/12 gauge. Last time I talked about it on NE, I had a look at Trijicon, Docter etc and all the sights seemed to have excessive large MOA dots, such as 7 MOA etc. Waste of time for me.
Also I need a red dot sight which does not "star burst" for my eyes, and is a solid red circle or triangle.
