The Cult of 10 should be quite happy with the latest announcement from Sturm, Ruger & Co: the Super Redhawk can now be had in 10mm.

The new Super Redhawk is a double action, six shot wheel gun that, to my eye anyway, looks pretty darn sharp. Ruger fitted the gun with a 6.5″ barrel and gave it a stain stainless finish. On top is a ramp front sight with a red insert and an adjustable rear sight.

Anticipating that some shooters might use this as a hunting gun, the top strap, sidewalls and barrel mounting areas are reinforced to handle the extra power from handloads developed for larger game. Additionally, there are integral mounts machined directly onto the barrel rib. Combined with the included scope rings, Ruger says it has eliminated one source for lost accuracy in the field.

To help handle the powerful 10mm loads, the rubber grip has an internal cushion positioned under the web of the hand. The grips do have the wood inserts that are common to some other Ruger revolvers. Of course, you can always swap out the stocks for an aftermarket set.

Included with this revolver are three full moon clips. The model number is 5524, and the company set the suggested retail price at $1,159.

Cool! - I do like wheelguns, but after shooting my buddies 10mm Auto, I wanted one. I see the Ruger 10mm 1911 is only $745.00. That's a good price.

Very Nice! Ruger has really been stepping up their game over the past few years, offering production handguns at competitive prices in calibers and configurations that used to be custom propositions only.

Hopefully they will continue following this course...

Well that should become an instant collectors item. Good for Ruger.

I think Ruger should bring back the standard Redhawk in 41 magnum too as a limited run. I'd bet they would sell quick to the 41 fans. Probably not enough market to make a standard number from either the 10 or the 41, but both will sell fast to fill the niche markets.

Another one I'd love to see is a SP 101 6 shot with a slender 5" or 6" barrel and adjustable sights in 327 Fed Mag. It would be a fantastic outdoorsmans revolver, very much like the old K32s S&W used to make in the 40s and before. That's a revolver I'd buy if they made it. A bunch of brass, a good bullet mold and a set of dies and such a gun would make me smile for many years.

The SP101 is available in 327 Fed Mag. It comes in a 6 shot with a 4.200" barrel.

Seems pointless considering I love the 10mm. What’s next, a 22lr Super Redhawk?

I always wanted one of the Blackhawk 38-40/10mm guns but won’t pay the going rate.

I could find some utility in a 10mm Super Redhawk offered with a second cylinder in .41 Magnum. But why carry a 3-3/8 pound Super Redhawk to shoot six of the same cartridges you could shoot from a 2-1/4 pound Colt auto, especially when the Colt holds nine rounds?

I think the primary purpose of a heavy framed revolver is to fire large powerful cartridges. To that point, the .41 Magnum is too big and powerful for the Colt auto but it's a perfect fit for the bigger and heavier Super Redhawk.

I was going to purchase a .41 mag. model 58, I think it was, the M&P S&W service revolver as my 'carry' handgun to replace the .38 we were issued.

I spoke to Elmer Keith about this at that time and he talked me into buying a M29 4" instead. I found one, almost new in box with 96 rounds of R-P ammo it was purchased with, for $200.00 in it's mahogany case.

I was very happy with the purchase after learning to shoot it and it's capabilities when shoot at long range, at that time, out to 325 yards. I used 21.0gr. 2400 and a 275gr. SWC from a 4-cavity Ohause mould. I still have that one, and use it. Only my loads have changed- oh yeah, on my 3rd M29 4" now.

I then passed this information on to a close friend (when on a moose hunt in 1974) along with a demo. of shooting a not very tight 6" group at 100 yards, sitting, he followed suit, buying one for himself as his service revolver.

G'Day Fella's,

Interesting but I'd prefer a 10mm Auto, to be in a smaller framed revolver.
Maybe the GP100 or a 7 or 8 shot, in the Red Hawk?

Doh!

My first Ruger handgun was a Security Six in 357 Mag..6" barrel..was a very accurate handgun..and at the time was IMHO, a much better firearm that the Ruger rifles were back in the day..referring to back when Ruger had outsourced their barrels..accuracy was pathetic on the ones I tried..

Today they seem like that they are a much better product ..and would have no problem purchasing one..I have a 10/22 that I customized..have no idea how many thousands of rounds I have put through that rifle..

Agree, see no reason for this to be in a Redhawk..smaller frame handgun would make it more desirable for me as well..having said that, I will probably stick with my Glock model 20SF custom..15 in the clip, hard to go back to 6 ...especially when carrying for self defense..2 or 4 legged..also have a Kimber in 1911 configuration but again, prefer the Glock..reliability and number of rounds readily available primary reasons..Glocks go bang every time..

Also agree with Daryl, a friend of mine has a S&W model 57 in 41 mag..5" barrel..v-notch rear sight with gold bead front..very very accurate revolver..been trying to buy that one from him for a very long time..

This also would not be a bad option..

I see that Ruger has the GP100 in a five shot 44 Special. That looks like a better idea.

Ruger made a Blackhawk in .357 Maximum for a few years back in the 1980's. It featured an extended cylinder with a beefed-up frame and utilized the same Dragoon-style grip frame and hammer as the Super Blackhawks. It was designed to be used primarily for silhouette shooting and came in 7 1/2" and 10 1/2" barrel lengths. The .357 Maximum is an impressive cartridge, pushing a 158gr bullet at 1825 fps with 1168 foot pounds of energy. Unfortunately, shooters found that the high pressures the cartridge created caused barrel erosion and "flame cutting" of the frame's top strap due to hot gases escaping through the cylinder gap. So, Ruger dropped it from production.
