WTB Greener Rook Safety Lever
      #307120 - 01/11/17 09:08 AM

I've got a little Greener Martini takedown rook missing a safety and keep screw. Looking for this item or photos of said item on grid paper/measured specs. Thanks. Our import laws are easy.

But what about you? he asked. Who do you say I am?

So what is you want. A cadet Safety lever (Martini Cadets don't have safety's) or is it a Greener safety lever. Can you provide a picture of the gun and action.

Is this the type safety lever that attaches to the safety spindle with a screw or the type lever that has the spindle integral with the lever and and is held in by a keeper half screw the screws into the action and turns into a slot in the end of the spindle?

This is a good place to start looking, but a better place to look is the Yard Forum on British Militaria Forum.

Spindle integral. I was under the impression that a little Martini was a Cadet but this is (to be clear) a split front takedown receiver WW Greener in .310.

Mine is a split-action take-down, but it is a BSA.

No safety. Leaving the lever unlocked, is the safety on mine.

The ctg. is contained by the top of the block, stopping it from falling from the action.

Again pictures of the gun will help. There are number of different shapes o and configurations

The best place to post your want and perhaps find you part is on the Yard Sale forum of British Militaria.

I have been told the Vere Breslin in Pietermaritzberg, South Africa has a large inventory of parts and may even have your part. I do not have any contact info for him, someone here may.

In the past Mr. Breslin has been very reluctant to sell parts only. Recently he has expressed a desire to retire and my be more forthcoming now. I do know he has discussed selling his parts inventory.

Not a 'safety lever' so much as a cocking indicator. I'd like to overhaul the rifle but if I can't find the part it'll be for sale.

What is that?

The big Greener Martini's have a spring detent for the smaller hole. Never seen one like that on the little Greeners. I think I have one, and maybe two, I will go dig them out later this morning and see what I have. If I have that system, I will post pictures on graph paper for you.

Martini Cadets were marked Commonwealth of Australia and had the kangaroo stamp on the top of the action where the barrel is fitted.
Your rifle is a BSA sporting rifle ,made for the civilian commercial market .They were chambered in a number of calibers including 310Greener ,32-20 ,300 rook and many more. The take down feature was not used on the military issue rifles.
The lever that is missing is the cocking indicator .It could be easily made from scratch and fitted by any competent gunsmith.

Gentleman the lever that is missing is the safety lever not the cocking indicator. This gun does not have a cocking indicator.

The large round engraved knob on the side is where a cocking indicator would be if the gun had one. That knob is the end of the tumbler spindle. That spindle usually has the indicator on it.

No the missing parts appear to be the safety lever, safety lever detente and safety lever spring.

Is the safety spindle or tumbler present in the action? These are the two additional parts to this style safety system. I can not tell from the pictures if those parts are missing or not.

I didn't get a chance to look for the Greener .22's that I have, Holidays did get in the way.

All the missing parts would be fairly easy to fabricate, except the safety tumbler. That one would take a good deal of fitting to get right. The arm has to set at the right arc and length and face to correctly intercept the safety arm from sear tumbler.

This safety had two functions, safety and loader/deloader.

Most aren't aware of the loading/deloading function

In the Martini, if properly adjusted and not worn, lever openthe top of the breech block will slight block the chamber. In order to load a round, either depress the lever to pull the block down or snap the round into the action. To Unload depress the lever.

With this safety system to load open the actio and move the lever to depress the block to let the round drop in the chamber. Move the lever to raise the block back to block the round from falling out.

To unload open action slowly, move the lever depress the block and the round will slide out.

Here is a quicky video, I made to demonstrate this operation

https://youtu.be/IUVydUD6PO8

If the round was fired, you will need to snap the action open sharply to active the extractor and extract the empty case.

The rifle pictured is not a BSA.

Thanks for the information. All I knew to begin with was it was a Greener takedown in .310 Rook. I haven't dissected it yet.
