High Roller
Biggest Whitetail Buck in the World
By Horace Gore

If someone asked, “Where do you think the biggest whitetail buck is today,” what would you say? South Texas? Saskatchewan? Minnesota—or Ohio? I know where he is, because I was fortunate enough to get to score him in January of this year. The world’s biggest buck IS in Ohio. http://www.ttha.com/gore.htm

I can only assume this buck draws a stiff stud fee..... And further one must ask.....is this the genetics we want to see in our deer we hunt?.....All I can say is that's it one most beautiful animal.....I'd be very proud indeed to bag one like that for the wall.

Thanks for showing us the photos.

Wow, how much do those things weigh?

The article mentions "line breeding" to get antlers of that size by breeding males with huge antlers to females that have fathers/brothers with huge antlers. I understand line breeding to be breeding within a family line (inbreeding) to enhance certain characteristics, like antler growth, but the down side is that it also compounds the negative characteristics. If the family has bad feet or poor milk production, then the resulting offspring has the potential to have really bad feet or milk production. It would be interesting to see the offspring of that buck crossed with either whitetails from the southern states or even mule deer. I feel there would be some great heterosis (hybrid vigor) but maybe someone knows better?

I've been reading this forum for a while now and it's got me fascinated. This is my first time posting. In regards to the Highroller buck, my girlfriend's dad artificially inseminated several does to him and another buck named Bucky. Needless to say they sold quite well. However, he is not the biggest. There is another buck named Goliath that scores 410. No BS. I first saw him in a whitetail calender. He doesn't look as impressive as Highroller or Bucky though.

I hate to say it but it's deer like this that are ruining whitetail hunting in many places. It's been happening in south texas for several years and it only appears to be getting worse.
