Man, watching around minutes 5:00 to 5:09 I would not want to be the guy holding the binoculars..look where that rifle barrel is pointing..

Secondly, if this is normal, those guys are a LOT tamer than the elk I hunt here in Montana..numerous looks and this guy keep moving slowly..normally not the case with elk..would find them in the next county..

Really nice bull either way..

I guess the guide put his arm down before the shot was made.

While the actual bullet impact on the stag is real the rest of the video is obviously a compilation of film. The camera is in front of the shooter and guide for some frames, probably staged after the shot and then again the camera is at the fallen animal as the hunter and guide approaches, the guide with a handgun out ready for the coup de grace if needed, obviously a staged approach. Most of the other filming of stags is not necessarily related to that hunt.

The rifle muzzle has had the slot modification done to it (can't recall the correct name for it at the moment) but the guide would have a burst ear drum if the rifle was fired over his shoulder in that condition.

While red stag can be curious and aggressive when in the roar (rut) they will take off quicker than any animal once they identify danger.

I couldn't help but notice the small body size of the Red Stag, compared to our Rocky Mountain Elk, or the Roosevelt Elk from Vancouver or Queen Charlotte Islands.

A nice trophy , but a middle aged deer , no a stag for shooting in our countries. A pity !

Wildlife management based on a harvesting strategy with a good selection of deers for culling , normally female , young or old and sick animals. Not middle aged deers in good shape that we need for the reproduction and a good genetic pool.

The trophy hunting is not on the first place in this system.

It is as Eagle said about a compilation of footage. However looking at a freeze frame the muzzle was in front of the guide and his arm.

Re size. Red Deer are Deer not Elk, Sambar Deer are an Elk(Indian Elk) and some what larger in body than Red's

Grandveneur, I agree. I prefer to take old animals well past their prime or younger genetic misfires. The Old do not become old by being stupid and have passed their genes along. The younger animals that are genetically inferior I like to take out so they do not pass on bad genes.

Wapiti is just another species of deer and can interbreed, reds with wapiti. Sometimes referred to as Elk.

European Elk/Alg/Elg is the European species of moose. But also a deer species.

Sambar are another deer species.

Not sure where their "elk" as a separate species is coming from? Other than perhaps misplaced historical nomenclature/naming.

Elk = Large deer, including moose and Wapiti. Sambar some times referred to as Asian or Indian Elk.

It's possible that scandinavians discovered first the wapiti on the east coast of North America and call it Elk because it was a big deer like the european moose. In this time the red deer was unknow in south scandinavian. A deer is a radjur or a hjort of norwegian or swedish.
