Quasi Speed with Lyman 34
      #304902 - 07/09/17 06:16 AM

Normally I wouldn't have bothered with an MLE, I was on the lookout for a new SMLE since the last one I bought as a project turned out to be completely shot out. However, this one turned up online with a Lyman 34 sight with the flip-down arpeture. I'm not totally familiar with the sight but I believe it to be a precursor to the well-loved Lyman 35 bolt-stop mounted ones of the Mauser 98. The barrel has been much shortened and needs rebluing, and the volley sight recess appears to have been filled with putty, but the safety functions, there is plenty of rifling and the straight-hand stock points very well. Is there any evidence of Speeds with peep sights? Or would a new stock and coat of rust blue simply turn this into a spiritual cousin?

A decent hunting rifle indeed, if it shoots well!

The factory WW 180gr. Power Points are good moose load for the .303 Br.
