How much is an average hunt in South Africa?

Short answer, about $20,000. Half for hunting per se (trophy fees + daily rates), half for everything else from plane tickets to taxidermy.

Long answer (based on a marketing study) can be found by clicking this link.

Will be interesting to read and analyse the article.

Haven't hunted in Africa for a few years now, last time was 2006 I think, then 2002, and 1994 before that, and first visited Africa in 1988.

Been surprised by some of the advertised prices and costs seen recently, not only for safaris but all sorts of stuff. Higher prices than I ever expected for many things.

But do plan to hunt Africa again, and again. Will manage it somehow. And will be good to look at your article is see what it says and adds up.

All up if paying for a plains game safari, a reasonable bag of animals and if including airfares, freight and fees for skins, skulls and horns, AND taxidermy, US$20,000 sounds pretty much a minimum. One reason many of us don't bother too much with trophies is the gouging airlines and freight agencies charge for shipment, and the cost of normal taxidermy. European/skull and cap mounts look great to me, skins for the floor too. Or photos. I did enjoy my tuskless elephant hunt, no taxidermy. Ha ha vs if trying to mount an elephant! Not possible to bring ele back to Aust anyway. But in the end a nice trophy room of shoulder and even full mounts is spectacular, if one has the room.

Hunts in South right now along with some of the other areas are as cheap as I have seen in the past 20 years...think if you want to go, now or next year is a good time to go...IMHO..

I don't hunt in South ..but plan to take my wife to Namibia one day..and have been looking at those prices as well...also pretty good deals...

I just got back from Zimbabwe last Thursday. Did a 12 day Buffalo hunt along with a Nyala and a few plains game animals. My bill for trophies and daily rate was about $22,000.This was my 23rd safari,I made my first safari in 1993 for about $2600 , go NOW !!!!!!!!! It will never be this cheap again.

I am booked in for Namibia next year. As for trophies all I will be taking ate photos. Brought my Buff skull back from Zim. The cost of all involved with that after shooting bit would have paid for a Tahr hunt in NZ. Prefer to hunt the look at trophy mounts.
