Gentleman, I was just looking once again through the Mannlicher forum and noticed that since this photobucket business as well as some other third party photo sharing sites, has happened we are loosing photos at an alarming rate from our forums. Many of the post now have nothing but text where there were many fine photos before. We are going to have to do something as many of these photos are needed (as well as wanted) for article illustration purposes. I am no expert on this topic but we must do something, there are so many photos missing now it is really bad.

Waidmannsheil.

I started working on a photo forum hosting programme for NE as a measure to replace the extortionist photobucket site for members.

However it appears the photobucket site won't allow their own users to access photos at all without a fee. So all those photos are effectlyely lost.

I would be wary of using photobucket at all. Their "tactics" may well kill off their site completely. IMO.

Preventing third party site display is one thing. Forcing people to view photos ON their site allows advertising revenue. BUT forcing users to pay to RETRIEVE their own photos is extortion IMO.

There was another thread on photos somewhere where an alternative site was suggested. Trying to find the thread.

Gentlemen, I just posted my first photo using third party posting and it could not have been easier thanks to Lancaster who showed me how to do it, and all for free. Here is the PM he sent me after I asked him for help in posting.

hello matt
do it, very nie rifle

will show you german efficiency: safe the pic on your computer and than go to http://picr.de/

you find a field there "Durchsuchen ..."

click on this and now you can look for the pic on your hardware

if you have the pic click on the pic and its on picr.de. you can do this up to ten times for one upload. when ready click on "Upload starten" below and after a moment you the pic in small version and a code below the pic. looks like this ""

Free? Really how can any one realistically provide you free photohosting. Somebody has to pay for those hosting servers.

I pay $23.95 a year for a 8 GB fotoshare account.I have had this account 2001.

Here is the stats on my account.

Pictures in account:7462
Disk Space:8 GB
Average space for each picture: 418.9 KB
Disk space used:2.98 GB
Disk Space Remaining:5.02 GB
Monthly Bandwidth Used: 2.33 GB
Monthly Allocated Bandwidth (5 times disk space):40.00 GB

Here is the info on the them:

https://www.fototime.com/pages/features_fototime

Simple to use, no ads. Easy to generate links for posting on the various board, and how I have posted all my pictures here for years. Lots and extra services, T-shirts and coffee cups as well as reprint services.

I agree with what you are saying however I posted a photo on the 275 Rigby thread from Buckstix and it all happened with no exchange of money. When you click on the link in the above post it even states that it is a free service for forums etc. Maybe they have ads somewhere.

Anyway it worked.

Last month's Kodiak goat hunt. Hardest physical activity I've ever done. Notice that he's tied to the rock above and the trekking poles are also holding him in place.

Gentlemen,

Please DO NOT CANCEL your photobucket accounts. As even if you do not pay any subscription fees to pb the images seem to be viewable periodically and sporadically from time to time.

At these times, if the opportunity is available, thread images can be recovered, located elsewhere and the threads restored.

All takes time to do however. But if the account is deleted, your images shared on NE will be gone for good.

Waidmansheill's advice still works as of 01/10/18 (US).

Here's how to upload photos that are stored on your computer to the Firearms Forum step - by - step:

1) Go to the website, picr.de (Bilder & Foto).
It's a german website, written in Deutsche, but is very simple to use with or without a translator.

2) Click the 'Choose Photo' box (for some reason this one's in English).
This brings you to your computer's file retreival options, choose the photo you'd like to post, click on it.
This will bring you back to the previous screen, but now the coded filename of your chosen photo is displayed. To post additional photos to the same post, repeat that process as necessary.

3) Click the 'Upload Starten' box near the bottom of the Bilder & Foto screen. This prepares your selected photos for upload (wait).

4) When the coded filenames appear on the screen, highlight them and press 'Control-C' on your keyboard. The files are now ready to be pasted to NitroExpressForum.

5) Go to NitroExpress and compose post, click the 'Images' box below (instant UBB code).
Delete the 'http://' that appears highlighted in the box, press 'Control-V' on your keyboard.
Click the 'OK' box.

Your photos are uploaded to the post.

Et voila!
