Browning High Power Safari Grade .300 H&H

One of the first guns I can remember drooling over as a small boy in a gun shop was a Browning High Power Safari Grade in .300 H&H Magnum. Well I can now scratch that one off the bucket list. It is a 1963 gun so no salt issues. I am debating on refinishing the stock due to some crazing but other than that it is in fantastic shape. I just need to take it Leopard hunting to complete the package!

Good to see a Browning wih a Mauser action. Normally when I see something on a modern Browning, I think "Ho hum who cares".

Back when they were a real rifle!

I have always loved the double step down of the Browning barrels. The Sako looks good, just a little different on the Monte Carlo.

I think I will try to find another one in .30-06 or .270 and have JES rebore and rechamber it to 9.3x62mm

Yes, it does, but I think you mean EARLY model Sako, with the FN Mauser Action.

Daryl, all SAKO High Power models have FN Mauser action but this one in picture is the latest version with Monte Carlo stock. First SAKO own made action for .375 H&H was L61R

Pacecars, how about a Browning safari in.375 H&H as a companion piece? It certainly fits with the British cartridge/H&H theme and would be great from a hunting perspective as well.

One of my fondest memories from my early 20's is an older gentleman who loved the Browning Safari. He'd had them in everything from .222 Remington Mag to .338 Win. By the time I met him, he'd settled on just two - .375 H&H and .458 Win. Spent many an hour talking and shooting with him. The Brownings were a pleasure.

Didn't know that - tks - I just assumed years ago, they'd changed, like Browning.

A good mate of mine has a Browning Safari in .375 H&H and has used it as his go to rifle for his many African and other Safaris.
My .404 rifle, was built around a Browning Safari action.
Their a great firearm.

My first quality rifle was a bran new in the box Browning hi-power Safari grade .300H&H. Very pleasant to shoot. I sold it in a fit of temporary insanity in 1980 but was able to find one, a 1962, at a gun show recently.Refinished stock but original blue with all steel bottom metal.I have the matching 1960 .375H&H. These are not for sale, ever.

I have two, a 338 Win Mag Medallion grade with a Douglas Premium barrel,
and 375 H&H Safari Grade.
Both excellent bits of gear.

I got the Leupold 6x36 and ordered some Tally QD lever mounts. I couldn't wait so I mounted it in the Weavers for now.

Yes, That's when the name "Browning" meant quality. I guess the bean counters don't think they can sell quality like this today?
