Went Fishing last Monday for 3 days.
      #301883 - 18/06/17 01:02 AM

Just got home yesterday. A few pictures. Damn - photobucket is slow loading.
The fishing was just as slow- found out I am getting worse in my allergy to the sun- hands broke out on their backs in tiny blisters - itchy like poison ivy.
Scratch until they bleed- then they only hurt which can be ignored, However they do get infected from the scratching with dirty fingernails. LOL - no free lunch.

Heading North to Dawson Creek.

Driving through the Pine Pass.

Going by Powder King Ski Village

Finally made it to One Island Lake, B.C. (just inside the BC Border)

Couple swans swimming past our 'camp' LOL.

My 'old' trailer and truck.

The fishing was really slow. When the trout are this fat, they are really picky. Kept one little Brookie. If from other water, this trout would only be about 1 1/2 pounds at the most. He's 3 pounds.

Heading home.

Azueta Lake in the Pass, just North of Powder King.

Saw 1 muley buck and 2 muley does, along with a cow moose and 2 bears on the way home, sifting along about 110kph.
One bear was a big one, near the ski village, maybe 8 to 9 inches between his ears. Think he'd have squared 7 feet, maybe a bit more. The other black bear was just a cub - little guy, maybe 3 or 4 yrs. old. 175 pounds or so. The big one could have pushed 350 - maybe. He was quite fat, but it's a bit early to be any heavier than that.

The little F350 has JUST enough power.

Gryphon - not any more! LOL

She gets 15 mph (IMP gallon) pulling that 26' trailer (27'4" to the hitch) at 110kph. She's 49 feet long when hitched.

Quinn's is 27' + hitch length = 30' + same truck, but blue.

I just weighed the frozen trout, without gills and guts - 2 1/2 pounds = 1.14 kilos, so I guess he might have been just over 3 pounds. That was my guess at the lake.

Tks for the comments guys. It is beautiful country to drive through but as a passenger, it is even better.

Come visit and we'll go for a drive.

Good ittle trip. Probably beats sitting at home BSing on the internet ....

Did two guys take TWO trailers?! Ha ha. Lots of space to stretch out in.

Getting 110 pmh with a caravan like that for that fuel economy is pretty good IMO.

Iowa - I/we tried almost everything in my fly boxes from Dragon Fly nymphs to minnow imitations, scuds and a host of Chronomids, even some larger dries.

I noticed the brookies I saw, were actually taking 'something' just under the surface, of course being brookies, they make a splash making many people think they are targeting surface flies.

The "odd" disturbance was obviously an under-the-surface 'take' or swirl, even though quite violent as brookies can be, so I put on a dry line and a long #8, green bodied (seal dubbing & underneath copper wire for weight), thin silver tinsel wrap, long thin flowing hackled (full length of body) Caddis emerger. There were a few larger travelling sedges I saw coming of the surface, so figured the very odd surface take was probably on the nymphs. There were a LOT of little Brown Sedges(Caddis), about 5/8" long but the fish were not targeting them. That was obvious.

The fly that worked for 3 hookups but only two landings, was almost like a Green Carrie, but a straight hook & I am sure the Green Carrie would have worked just as well. Quinn kept using muddlers and leeches, but only had a few "hits" and no hookups.

Yes John - 2 trailers - he snores so loud, he even woke me up in my trailer once. I cannot sleep with a snorer. My sleep is shitty enough with the PTSD, I need my own trailer.

I am quite happy with the F350's performance. The 6.7liter Diesel makes 460 HP and has 840 pounds of torque. It actually passes just like a normal V8 truck without a trailer, but that can be hard on tires if using an equalizer hitch as I found out last year. I wore out the stock Michelins in one 4 month season, so I put Hankooks on for this season.

Gotta watch the speed, though on a pass. It'll run from 90/95 kilometers per hour to 140 in the length of a 30 wheel transport truck.

My Hemi Dodge would only get 12.2 to 12.4 at best, but had to drive at 110kph. That truck felt too light for that speed, but dropped to 9.2 to 9.4miles per gallon if I drove at 95 kph where it felt comfortable. It was not capable of passing squat - not enough power, even though it was supposed to have 390hp - no (poor) torque.

Couple winters ago, Quinn rolled his F250 Diesel in the Pine Pass on a trip to PG, so we bought a pair of trucks for a really good price - brand new 2015's in November 2015 - only $54,700.00 ea. for XLT's.

They pull trailers very nicely.

The mosquitoes and black flies were very bad, but with mosquito coils and my Thermacell, we got by without having to use bug dope.

Thanks Daryl.
With just under the surface takes being presented I have had good luck with soft hackle flies similar to what you described.

Ha ha when you come hunting with me then, we will put your swag a couple hundred metres away in the bush. I have sleep apnea so without a machine snore very loudly. But can rarely go without a machine nowadays. Bush camping requires more planning and thought and a little more gear.

When driving to the Top End across the Centre of Australia in my Landcruiser, I dread what fuel economy I get. Roof rack with cargo boxes on it doesn't help fuel economy or balance. Rocked like a boat sometimes. Speeds from an SA limit of 110 kmph, o maybe 130/140 kpmh in the NT (I forget what the NT limit now is? It was once unlimited before the bureacrat Southern socialists got their way). But fuel economy suffers a lot say once 100 kmph is passed. First trip to the NT in 1983 in a SWB Landcruiser we stayed below 80 kmph (50 mph) and achieved an average 35 mpg from the 10,000 km plus trip.

With Tracy driving us home from Trail BC, after my knee replacement, she got 25.4mpg driving at 100K. We were most fortunate that the Dodge had a 110 plug-in, so ice water was pumped in a special gizmo around my knee continuously for the 122 hour trip. We had to replace the ice in the bucket only 3 times. It was still an arduous trip.

My average around here with the Dodge Hemi was 23.5, best of 24.3mpg.

The Ford also has a 110 outlet along with a bunch of 12 volt outlets. Nice to have 110 for small refrigerators, iec-packs, etc.

I'm really liking 'modern' camping.

Sounds good Daryl. Especially for your knee.

I am having trouble with an ankle. Not sure how driving for 6 to 8 hours, for three to four days is going to affect it. An hour's drive or several hours in the tractor and my ankle and soul of my foot is killing me. Right knee as well. Doctor had a look at it, and said not worth doing anything.

The air conditioning in my Landcruiser gave up a trip or two ago. Had Bridhe Motors Darwin look at it, as well as the diesel which leaked out when filling up and the useless bastards didn't fix a thing. Useless. I never miss a chance to name them.

So I drove back in a sorching car, I didn't know it at the time as useless Bridge Motors Darwin either were so useless they didn't know, or didn't bother to tell me, but a hole in the exhaust had cut a hole through a fuel intake line and th exhaust was also blowing on the bottom of the cabin behind me, melting the floor, melting a camp bed, melting a cargo box to the floor, to a black burned colour ....

No wonder it was hot. Rolled down the air conditioning window. I had an ice bag in a bucket next to me, to cool the temperature down, and to stick my hand in ...

My luxuries. Ha ha. Reminds me, need to get the air conditioning fixed again and it was today, the booking, oops ...

Love the little patches of snow hanging in on the 'hills' there. Still pretty warm around here (north Australian tropics) but starting to get cooler nights inland at last.

Your camper sure puts our mozzie-dome and swag to shame!

Almost forgot: nice little brookie. Bet it tasted great!

Saving the trout for a BQ with my wife, when she gets home. Out playing with her sister for a couple weeks.

Marrakai, I think the highway is at about 4,000'ASL. We're 2,000'ASL in town, in a really wide valley.
