Les, you may have already seen this load on the ADI website.
235 grain bullet max of 70 gns AR 2208 for 2819 fps in 24" barrel.
Not precisely what you're after but may provide something to work with.

Les

Try these reduced loads for the 375 H&H loads.

  • 220 gr bullet - 65 grs of ADI AR2208 - approx velocity 2,500 fps

  • 220 gr bullet - 36 grs of ADI AR2205 - approx velocity 2,050 fps

I use the Taipan 220 gr flat point designed for a 375 Winchester round.

The first load gives a good but moderate velocity, well below normal H&H power. The second basically duplicates the .375 Winchester plus a few fps.

Oltimers ?! I have zero recollection of ever reloading that bullet in reduced loads ???

Must revisit and give them a try again.

About that 220gr. load at 2,000fps. It is no slouch. No flies on those ballistics.
I shot 2 moose with my wife's .375 model 94 BigBore back in the 1980's, with a 220gr. Hornady FP, loaded with lighlty compressed load of 42gr. H335 for a velocity of 1,920fps.
One moose took 2 steps and dropped from a side chest hit. The other, shot at approximately 95 or 100 yards, we found out had his back to us and was looking at us over his back. He dropped at the shot, but got up and limped away. We waited 15 or 20 minutes then took up the trail. There was blood, but only speck here and there in the low scrub's leaves (blue berries). The dew on the leaves was frustrating as it made the leaves that were turning colour (to reds) all look like they were covered with blood. He was throwing his hind legs oddly & that was the main method of tracking him through the small "sallel" sort of leaves. After an hour and 1/2 we finally caught up to him. He turned and tried to run, but a shot from the right rear quarter, angled up through his lungs, dropping him in 2 or 3 steps. Once getting up to him, a shot through the melon finished him. We then found my first shot had hit him perfectly, or would have been, had he been facing us. It broke the hind leg it hit. Imagine that.
Good load. We were lucky in being able to track him so far - probably a mile of more. The bush there is quite open and that made it easier, but oft times I was on my hands and knees, touching wet leaves with a finger to see if it was water or blood.
That's a LOT of verbiage just to say that a .375", 220gr. bullet at 1,900fps to 2,000fps is not a toy. Oh well.
Oh, to be young again. I was in my 30's.

Way late to the party on this one. I have not loaded 225 grain but have loaded 235 with 2206H and used them on pigs, Every single pig has dropped to the shot and very few even gave a kick afterwards. Would have to look back to see the load. Just load they shot very well so went hunting.
