So sad, but the family knows there is no better way to go then when hunting. He was years premature, though - it's gotta hurt. My heart goes out to family and friends.

Yes maybe in one of the tahr ballot blocks which are full on at the moment. There are no second chances in that country. Fortunately they had a PLB, these or maybe a sat phone are really an absolute must, the PLB being the quickest and most reliable.

I was due to go in with my two sons and a couple of their mates on a tahr ballot block on the 17th of this month but although I won a block in the ballot DOC mucked it up and didn't allocate it (new system this year). It was only when I inquired about my permit for the block that they realised their error, offered a couple of spare blocks and periods but were both too short notice, bugger!!

They have however given me first choice next year for a block and period so I was in like a rabid dog in booking that.

My sincere condolences to his family and friends.

Very sad. Condolences to family and friends.

I hope the son has all the support he needs.

I would say it was better then wasting away in a hospital bed.

Exactly...

Horrible hunt for the son, but agree. much rather go out this way than in a fricken hospital of care center of some sort...

Mountain hunting is NOT for the faint of heart, shit happens...

Sad story...

G'Day Fella's,

A sad situation and loss, RIP.

So many Hunting locations on the Sth Island of NZ, have the potential for mishaps and fall's.
In my limited experience on the West Coast, especially in Winter (read Ice), it's even worse.
But what a stunning place to be Huntin!

Regards
Homer

Thanks.

RIP, a hunter on the hill.

When buffalo hunting with th Kiwi owner, he told me about an accident where an American client fell and broke his pelvis. Three days of lying up on the mountain side in a tent with the injured client, huddling for warmth, him crapping in his pants etc. An aweful account. But the client survived and was extracted and recovered. Not a nice thing to go through. Mountain hunting is always dangerous.
