Post war Mannlicher barrel
      #301110 - 01/06/17 05:30 PM

Gentlemen, does anybody have any pictures of the breech end of a post-war Mannlicher barrel, as in looking towards the chamber. Or alternatively, does anybody have a post-war barrel that they could take a photo of.

Thanks in advance, Waidmannsheil.

Gentlemen, there haven't been very many answers, as in not one. Surely there must be someone out there who has an old post war barrel or at least knows of where on might be. Any breech end photos would be very much appreciated.

Waidmannsheil.

Kuduae has mentioned in the past that the post WW2 actions have the primary extraction cams machined in the end of the barrel as opposed to the pre-war models where they are machined in the end of the action. This of course makes re-barreling tricky as the primary extraction cams are difficult to machine without special purpose built machinery. Externally on the bolt is easy but internally is a different story. I would like to see how the breech end of the barrel looks so that I can get an idea of how much and what sort of work is involved if one needs to re-barrel a post war model. If you can help that would be greatly appreciated.

Matt.

There is a brand new barrel for sale, I think in Melbourne, in the whiye and in 270....a rare thing .
It came with a 1950 Deluxe in the same calibre....was still in the crease proof paper when I had it.
Might safe a lot of work!!

Best
Eric

Paradox, I saw that add as well and contacted the owner to send some photos of the end of the barrel which he did. Now either the end of that barrel has not been finished or it has been altered as there are no primary extraction cams or locking lug seats in the end of the barrel which according to Kuduae, there should be on post WW2 barrels. The inside of the barrel end looks as if it has been machined by someone after it had been made by the factory, as in, it looks as if the extraction cams have been bored out as the remaining cylinder wall thickness looks to thin to machine cams into.
