Double Rifle Shooters Society Hog Hunt

I wanted to post a few pictures from our annual hog hunt. The hunt was held in Crowell, Texas at RAGGEDY CREEK RANCH
The lodge we stayed at was very nice modern facility overloooking a nice lake. (I caught 3 bass and 1 perch in 20 minutes Saturday.

The hunting was tough. We were a bit late in the season, however the fellowship and stories made up for the lack of game.

I'd like to thank Melody at LONG GRASS OUTFITTERS for donating a bunch of Coozies.


I'll include a couple of photos now and will post more when I get home.

First off I might as well get this out of the way. . .

That's me doubling Jim's Merkel 470. WE all a good laugh! I thought Perry standing in the background might have hurt himself when he fell to the ground laughing!

Looks like you had a lot of fun. How can a new double rifle owner join in future fun? I live in Fort Worth and need to find some piggies for my 450/400.

Tinker, yes those were the only two taken.

Mike,
Tony, Dave and Jim are from the Dallas area.
You are welcome to join us anytime we get together. We may put something together in the fall. For now Perry and I are planning to get toether somewhere and hunt dove this fall.
The Society had voted to try to get 4-8 guys together for a Zim buff and cow elephant hunt in '07.

Looks like it was fun! Sorry I missed it. I hope to have the 450/400 fine tuned in a couple of months...would sure like to have had it setting by the rest of them in the picture. Be sure to keep us posted on any upcoming pig chasing (ha).

A nice collection!

Sorry gentlemen for not being able to add to your cheer at this years gathering with some nice reds but time and an FDA food import and anti-terrorism registration prevented that. I PMed Rusty about it a week or two ago. I apologise for not getting them to you and thanks for your understanding. That won't be a problem for your next years gathering if you do one however. And hopefully something something special too.

It looks like Jim's rifle caped his boar for him too!

Thanks for posting the photos, the comments and hopfully a few stories too.

Jim's hog was taken on an evening hunt and was already in the freezer by the time we got to the picture taking session.

Thanks for putting this together! I had a GREAT time and am counting the days until the next hunting trip with the DRSS!!!!

After shooting Paul's 500 I might have to get one. I will always remember that Tree...when he shot it was like a lighting bolt strke!...

I'll follow up on your post so other know what we're talking about.

On Friday afternoon, Jim and I hunted alone in the high fence area. Our guide took us around the area where we would hunt and when we got out of the vehicle, we saw about seven boar in the field to our left. Jim and I ran up to the fence line and Jim let his .470 rip at the big boar in the front. After he fired, we saw the boar trip and run slower. We knew that Jim hit him, just didn't know where. Right after Jim fired, I put the bead of my .500 on one of the boars in the back and squeezed off my right barrel...bringing the gun down out of recoil, I saw the boar was still running, but I did notice that a tree directly behind the boar was falling...Not a huge tree..maybe 5-7 inches in diameter (Jim, would you say that was right?) Seeing that happen I couldn't concentrate on the boar any longer and I just had to laugh.

We paced off the distance and we were shooting at the boars from about 140 yards. (I think it was 146 yards.) When we got to the opposite corner of the field, we looked at my tree and sure enough, it looked like lightening had struck it...splinters everywhere.

So, when confronted with a deadly charging tree, I have NO DOUBT that my .500 NE will do its job!

Fortunately, Clark had seen fit to purchase the "Tree Trimming" stamp for his Texas hunting license! This avoided any fines that could have been assessed for "trimming the trees without a license"!

I would also like to add that there is no truth to the rumor that he is having it mounted!

Anybody notice that quite a few members were packing their side-arms? We all know Tony(450NE #2) packs his 4" S&W 44 Mag. Ever think of a group pic of all the side-arms in camp?
