Full wood stocks

Hi Team Mannlicher
I have a couple of rifles (sako's) that I want to put full wood Mannlicher "style" stocks on. I understand ill probably have to get these hand made including nose caps etc. Never the less does anyone know who/what/where/how I might get this done or where to start?

Bidyanus. I am sure that many rifle stock makers in Australia will be able to have made-to-measure full stocks made for your Sakos and I leave it to the Forum's Australian members to point you in the right direction. For the nose caps, Recknagel in Germany produces them in two different sizes, see http://www.recknagel.de/Joomla/images/stories/Downloads/Recknagel-Zubehoer_8-Katalog_1_Korrektur.pdf page 26, items 28000-0145 and 28000-0155. You will also see in this catalog many different items such as steel butt plates, swing swivels, etc. that might be useful for your project. Regards. Louis

Bidy, we have our very own Master stock maker here on this very forum. GABE93 is up in FNQ and his work is superb as well as being a gentleman.

You can look for hardwear at New England Custon Bun Sservice as well.

I had a Ruger 375 Alaskan stocked with a fiberglass mannlicher stock by MPI as well. It's in the USA but you may be able to order?

Might not be everyone's cup of tea, but remember the Mannlicher-stocked Sako carbines from the 1950s had two-piece stocks, with the join hidden beneath the front band.
Might be a cheaper/easier option.
No-one can fault the accuracy of those early Sakos, so bedding a two-piece stock is not an issue per se...

I have a ex-mil Mannlicher Schoenauer in 6.5x54 M-S which someone has sporterised in a Stutzen styled stock.

Originally purchased to customise well as a stutzen. But decided the cost is not worth it compared to sourcing an original.

I wonder, would it be an abomination to put a synthetic stutzen stock on it instead?

Here's my 1983 Ruger Tang Safety .243 International. It is a delight to carry and shoots well with 95gr SST's which should be about right for deer, etc.

I did have a second one, a .308 of later manufacture with bolt safety that my friend had to have - so it's gone.

This one has a nice trigger and shoots quite well.

Full length two piece stocks are a good idea. The split in the for end helps keep changes in the stock from affecting shot placement.
