Lee-Speed? Or not?
      #296302 - 05/03/17 09:33 AM

I had a guy show me an pretty well worn rifle today.

It is very similar to an LS but am not sure what to make of it.

It is marked Andrews on the Knox and retains govt inspection marks. No engraving. Bolt is turned down forward swept with dust cover. Front sight is two leaf express- one in front of fixed standing and one behind.

The butt is chequered, brass plate, and more of a military pattern.

I will try and get some pics up but am not near home right now.

Thanks for any thoughts,

Colin

An Andrews conversion to compete with the later version of the BSA sporter. If the checkering were recut would be an nice Enfield representative of the period. Not a "Lee Speed". Ron

Thanks for the help with the pics.

He wants to trade it for a rifle I have.

The wood is pretty worn and bluing is definitely weak.

Regards,

Colin

Strathcona,

Yes, as Ron said, not a Lee Speed... however... as part of writing the LS book I have been heavily researching Andrews for his part in the LS story... did you happen to get a photo of the knox where it says "Andrews"? I would love to see that. Would help for comparisons in my research.

Thanks!

Didn't get a straight down shot on it.

I only see the guy at local gun shows and the next one is not until the fall if memory serves.

I will see if I can find his number and will see if he can take a pic though.

If I remember correctly, the stamp was poorly struck IMHO.
