First Whitetail With a Bow
      #298522 - 06/04/17 08:19 AM

After years of looking for one in the Aussie bush I gave up and paid for one.

You can try one of my live sambar if you like.
If you can hit that little rat you will easily get one into a big deer.

You might have to try a more lethal arrow as those ones dont seem to have the desired knockdown effect, unless he is still bleeding out. I have heard that sometimes deer dont seem to react to the arrows untill they fall down dead.

Looks the same as how I usually roll. Don't know what you are on about.
VG there is over 900 gr per arrow and I still can't put him down.

Nice little 3-point, Claydog. The lack of lethal penetration has me concerned, tho, bordering on cruelty to animals. Your broadheads either suck, or you need to up your draw weight- considerably. A good bow and arrow combination should pass through whitetails quite easily, even the big Canadian 350pounders in the prairies.

Claydog is getting ready for all those whitetail high seat hunting out in the secret location of whitetail herds in Arhemland. Very few people know their location.

Good shooting mate.

Practising for bow hunts with clients? Or for your own ow hunting safari after some deer somewhere?

Just for myself. Have gotten into it a bit after guiding bow hunters. Almost ready to look for a nice buffalo. Couldn't afford the 3d buffalo target.

Where did you buy this and keen to look at the buffalo target. Water, cape or bison? Life size?

Cool. I should give my bow a stretch and practice. At one time I had a 'range' set up beside the house. Need a whole bunch more new target arrows. Good zen and meditation. Shooting a bow.

Got it from Abbey Archery. They have a bison but it is $2600.00. I have a 50 yd and a 75 yard Hay bale set up and sit the target in front. I have been told it is golf for red necks. I shoot every day and find it good sport. The arrows are Easton Full Metal Jacket Dangerous Game with brass inserts. With the tip it is a good 900 gr arrow. Its like throwing a spear but when it does get there it seems pretty hard to stop.

Thanks. They're not cheap! I see why you went for a whitetail.

Golf for rednecks, perfect.

I wonder what the supplier sells them for? I once looked at large grain game feeders from an Aussie gunshop seller. Luckily they sold out quickly. Found where they sold in the USA and they were 1/3 the price including freight to Australia !!! Got two. Need two or three more.

I would like a target or two.

Maybe we could mould a water buffalo one day mate, and make our own!!!

When I went to Vegas I saw the price of the 3d targets in the Bass Pro Shop and felt like filling a container and shipping as many as I could fit over. I like the deer. Pretty much like Gryph said if I can hit it I should be good for something bigger.

A BIG Texan 'Lad' we guided on a moose hunt some years back, had on order, 175 pound limbs for his Black Widow recurve.

His goal was a Cape Buffalo, with 1,000grain arrows - which I seem to recall were minimum for that animal. I do not know which country that was in.

Seems to me the arrows used (at that time) were Easton 2317's full of salt and having a 2 blade 'German' broadhead. That is, only 2 edges. I do not remember the broad head make, but did see many of them in camp over a few years there.

Terrific cutters, strong and razor-blade sharp out of the package.

ClayDog here is a true fat one in all his early Autumn nick, he`s round and roly poly and his condition shows in his summer coat.
The pic`s were snapped through the week and while his antlers are poor, especially with no brow tines he is a good sort to hang up early in the year.
If you can hit that poxy little WT with an arrow you would get one into fat bastard easy enough..if you can find him and if he stands still long enough ha ha.

I have had a couple of scouts for him expressly to do my freezer a favour..no such luck!

And a cheap chow camera that I have up the back snapped this pot belly last night around midnight..poor pic quality but it shows his ample girth as well.
They are in great nick after the super wet winter/spring last year.

Snow forecast for up the back,on top today.

That is one well fed animal. I have shot buffalo smaller than that.
