.300 H&H range performance + some..
      #298331 - 03/04/17 06:32 AM

I went to the shootingrange here saturday to prepare for hunting here in Denmark for roebuck in may.

My standard Scotland stalking load is 70grain NORMA Mrp to a 200grain Nosler AB + Fed 215. Norma brass. Vo= 912 m/sec.

My first 4 shots at 100 meters:

testing 3 shots with ironsights(not regulated to this load)

I was satisfied!.(still am)

My custom pre-winnie in .270wby has a new barrel made here in DK. Twist 1:8

Testing Nosler PAR,ABLR(150grains) and 110grain GS Custom

110 grain GS Custom loaded with 70grain N160.Fed 215 Vo= 1021M/sec(mild recoil)
first 3 shots:

Nosler 150grain PAR. 70grain NORMA Mrp. Fed215.Norma brass. Vo = 976 m/sec
First 4 shots:

Nosler 150grain Accubond longrange. 70grain NORMA Mrp, Fed215, Norma brass. Vo = 985 M/sec.
First 4 shots:

Since the .270Wby have a new barrel that has shot less than 32 shots, I am very carefull not just to load a whole lot of ammoup to to waist at the range for no purpose, but to wear a new barrel down. That`s why I load a few rounds up to observe what preference the barrel has for bullets and then start from there.
I tested a velocity string on the Nosler ABLR 986, 985, 979 and 987 m/sec. Very consistant!.
I used to have a Liljabarrel on the.270, but I never really got any good groups except the first year I had the rifle. From there by an enigma I was never able to get any good thing out of it.(still a puzzle to me)

Your .300 appears to be quite ready - .270 WTBY Mg. too.

Nice rifles!

Thanks!. I will go ahead and try out a Barnes TSX 130grain next time, but the ABLR looks promising.

Next time a small batch of loads around 70grains will be in session. My former barrel(chamber) took 73grain of MRP and 150grain bullet @ 1000 m/sec. The loads here is the very first handloads. I believe a ½ grain will get to close to 1000 m/sec which indicate this chamber and free-bore might be on the tight side. Test different COLs might just be the trick. I have experienced before seating the bullet 1mm +/- from nominal COL can squeeze a group from 1½" to ½". I hope the .270Wby perform best with 150grain and no lighter. I have my 6,5x68Schüler which ought to fill the 100-120grain bullet area.
