Looking for info on Chas Heyer.
      #296472 - 07/03/17 09:52 PM

Gentlemen,

I am looking for info on Chas Heyer, first hand accounts, catalogs, antidotes, etc...So far there is only little mention of his outfitting operation in "White Hunter" and I would love to see more and the various Mausers he sold.

Thank you.

I've seen photos of the exterior of his store in Nairobi on the web but can't seem to find them now. The name also appears in the Kenya Gazette from the 1920's in published notices about stored firearms, etc. I've seen a number of Mauser Type A's with Heyer markings on the barrel and have one of them myself. (There's a Type A in 9.3 x 62 with Heyer markings in the current Poulins auction but it has a non original vent pad). Apparently he was the largest safari outfitter in East Africa during the late Colonial years, and possibly before. I've seen the Heyer markings on at least one gun other than a Mauser - possibly a Mannlicher or Zi-Di.

I'd love to see photos of the interior of the store if any exist.

Here's a link to Charles Heyer's grave in Nairobi. Died Oct 1931, about the time Karen Blixen left Kenya. I'm sure Karen, Bror, Denys Finch-Hatton and the Happy Valley set were in the store more than once.

Thank you, I saw that, a chas Heyer marked model A in 9.3 is my #1 dream rifle, over my original .404 jeff, .303 Rigby, rigby rising bites etc.. I already put a 4k reserve on it, I have to have that gun for my first safari.
