Big Island --Hawaii
      #296624 - 09/03/17 07:04 AM

Was on the big island of Hawaii a couple weeks back...had a great time..lots and lots of hiking trails..

We did a 2 hour tour of the island by helicopter when we first got there..helped to determine where we wanted to go hiking first..

Active volcano..

This is the area where a big chunk of land broke off last fall -2016..causing the lava flow to go directly into the ocean..incredible sight..

Green Sand Beach we hiked into--only 4 in the world..

On one of our hikes..

ooppppss...missed the sign..

At a Luau we took in one evening..

Another hike/drive

Black sand beach--infamous...

Another hike--lava flowing towards us..they stated it can be in excess of 2000F...at this distance it felt if I stayed very long I would burst into flames...

Same day--evening shot--

Hiking

More random pics.

Nice pictures, thanks for posting them, Ripp.

My wife and I were there in January.

She said someone put beer in her wine glass.

This is a video of the water entry. The steam coming up off the water felt like we were in a sauna.

Now THAT is a wine glass...

As to the lava flowing into the ocean..incredible sight..
Not sure of the exact amount but think it was 20+ acre's that fell into the ocean that started this??

Hawaii is an amazing place IF you go to the right places..would NOT got to Oahu, Waikiki--too many people and way to commercial..

Maui is nice but also getting more commercial every time I go there..away from the towns beautiful scenery...

Was on the Big Island last time --also two larger cities Kona and Hilo.. but the biggest island of them all by far, in fact bigger than the others combined..lots of open spaces..hiking trails, good fishing and lets not forget the nude beaches..

Kaui is more layed back as well..

Have been to Hawaii about a dozen times...always enjoy it...but the last trip was the best one there in a while...

Think the next trip will be to Tahiti --Bora Bora..have heard a lot of good things about there as well as to beauty...

Some stunning scenery there! It looks like a great place for a visit.

I have looked at going there a few times as Flight Centre have had some cracker deals but have gone off to other places instead.

This is looking down onto Kona from up on the side of the mountain. Island cruise ship anchored offshore.

Kilauea Water entry from a boat.

Our Condo 'porch' in Kona. Lunch is served.
