Just ran to the safe to check mine and they're fine. Still the number one seller after 111yrs and not going away soon. With 110 to 240gr bullets this one will do it all. Hornady superformance sends a 180gr bullet at 2820fps, 80fps shy of .300H&H with lower kick, lower, noise and lower cost.

Dead? No way!
Notice that even Rigby offers it in their new Highland Stalker? They know what they are doing...

The 30-06 is in as much danger of extinction as flys are in a feed lot, or sagebrush is in Nevada.

NO! It may not be perfect for anything, but it's really good for a lot of things and adequate for even more. Captdavid

If I could only have one centerfire rifle it would most likely be the 30-06.
For the hunting I do with a centerfire rifle, the 30-06 covers it all.
While it may not be perfect for varmints and not really adequate for large dangerous game, its about as good as it gets for everything else.
I currently only have one 30-06 and its a M-1 Garand. Not a sporting rifle but it is a "hunting" (and target) rifle.

Yes mine are all good to .

Remember the Hornady Light Mag 30/06 180gr 2900fps, had some recoil in my light weight 06 !

Show us your .30-06's. With or without game.

One of my .30-06's. With a zebra skin it took.

I own a few 30-06 rifles.

A Browning M95 with iron sights. 17 kills with this one. Deer and antelope
A Mauser/Scout with a 19" barrel and 2X scout scope. 14 kills with this one. Deer and antelope.
An M-1 Garand. 7 kills with this one. All deer
A Browning BLR. 1 kill with this one. Elk.
A Classic Mauser with a 3X-9X scope. No kills yet with this one.

I have also owned 4 other 30-06s in my life that I have sold or traded.
A perfect condition 1903 Springfield. No kills with this one.
A full-stocked carbine on a Mauser, set up for cast bullets only. 2 kills. Both deer
A Winchester M70. 4 kills. 3 deer, 1 bear.
A Remington M1917 3 kills. 2 deer, 1 bear.

I have never seen a reason to regret the use of a 30-06 and I have never had a shot
offered to me that would would not take with a 30-06 that some other caliber would
have caused me to attempt.

I do not say the 30-06 is my all-time favorite center-fire hunting round, but it's in my top 3.

my only 30-06 at this time. I have not used it to hunt with yet but may do so this autumn in Tennessee.
May, 1944 M-1 Garand.
I have used this for shooting Service Rifle XTC for many years. I still take it out to fun matches but now use a National Match AR-15 to shoot Service Rifle matches.

-06 dead? Hardly. In my entire life I've owned only two, an 03-A3 and a Garand. That was over 20 years ago and I have no desire to own one now. It simply doesn't interest me nor does it do any more or less than a couple dozen other cartridges in the same class. However, no one can take anything away from its effectiveness, versatility or popularity. It's one of those cartridges that will be around as long as men hunt and shoot.

G'Day Fella's,

Unlikely and just as we discussed elsewhere on NE, the .30-06 (like the 7x57, 6.5x55 etc, etc) are just not the "Flavor of The Month"........... at present.

You have to remember, that this century or the last 20 + years, there have been a massive amount of "new" cartridges unleashed upon the shooting public. Many of these new Powder Burners, don't know much about the history of our/their sport, so they may not be aware of cartridges like the .30-06, etc.
Give em time!

I'd like to finish up by quoting Master Alaskan Hunting Guide, Mr Phil Shoemaker;
"Anyone who claims the 30-06 is ineffective has either never used one - or else is unwittingly commenting on their marksmanship"

If the 30-06 is dead then who is buying up all the ammo that makes it the top selling caliber in the world?

My 57 BRNO ZG47 in .30-06.

Nice!

The old 'o6 is an incredible bush and out to 200yard moose rifle with 180gr. Hornady RN's. The impact impact is a slap you and everyone else should hear.
