For those that haven't used it, here's what to expect from wipe out bore cleaner.

1) Fill the bore and let soak according to directions ( i let it soak overnight)

2) This is what you see the next morning...

3) The first patch through the bore looks like this...

4) This shows the puddle of copper that dripped out of the barrel overnight and what the fist patch pushed through the bore.

5) This shows the second patch through the bore and the black on the patch is powder fouling. A second (sometimes a thrid is needed) application get's rid of the powder fouling.

That's why the guys that use Wipe Out reccomend it so much to the guys that don't.

One soaking, one patch and the copper is gone.

PS - no ammonia.

new guy,

Great Post. That's exactly why I use it and sell it - it works.

Although Wipe Out gets rid of the Powder as well, I use a piece of cloth with Hoppe's on it first
to get rid of some of the worst Powder fowling before using Wipe Out.

FWIW - I flush the bore out good with carburetor cleaner ($0.99/can from the local auto parts place), and run a couple of dry patches through.

It works just like the various "gun scrubbers" (aerosol types), which is to say that it cleans, degreases and evaporates - leaving the metal oil-free.

new guy:
If carburettor-cleaner dissolved copper, I rather imagine the class-action law suit would go for decades!

Yes, it would

That was in response to an earlier post - regarding what to clean the bbl with prior to using the wipe out... i was saying that prior to using the wipe out, i give the bore a good flushing with carb cleaner.

Do yourself and your guns a favour, grab a can of WipeOut and give it a go!

I did, those are my pictures above.

The wipe out I ordered just arrived. This weekend it's time to dirty up some barrels and give it a try.

New guy, what's up with that unusual looking ramp and front sight combination?

I'm not following you... Is it the fact that the ramp and rib are a single piece of steel?

The combination of ramp plus blade looke about 3/4 inch higher than it does on most guns.

I see what you're saying. And I don't know why that is the way it is. I've owned 3 Chapuis and they've all been like that.

500,
What your seeing is a 3/8th dovetail as opposed to a catapiller cut, and that is very unusual on a double rifle..

I have been using Wipe Out since its conception, great stuff...BTW Forrester foam is not as good..Carburator fluid was pretty good stuff in its day and still not bad, but Wipe Out is in a class of its own..

Now a homemade solution of One quart of 25% Amonia and a cup of Hydrogen Peroxide with a Penny tossed in will do the same thing as Wipe Out, maybe a bit better..Its been around for decades and used by Benchresters who named it Blue Goop, but don't leave it in your bore more than 15 minutes and don't take a deep snort of it..

I just got my can of Wipe Out from Midway last week. Cleaned my .500, .416 and .338 with it last weekend after I had already "cleaned it" with other products.

I'm now convinced that this stuff is amazing.
