250 rook is also a holland. Sight rationale 577 my choice purchased 30 years ago new. Other 4 guns built outside of my buying zone. All in top condition and shoot very well.

I have seen a .295/300 double rook rifle by H&H, but NEVER a .250. That is a real star and rarity. Less is more!

Very nice collection of rifles! The rifle next to the rook rifle reminds me of a Stephen Grant 577/500 magnum that I used to have. The shape of the fences looks very similar from what I can see and that rifle was made in 1887. Thank you for sharing those photos with us!

Historic bore. Double rook is 297/250 confirmed by Mr Winks ex holland & holland. Not stamped on gun. Uses same round as my single shot rook, it is stamped 250 semi smooth bore. Watson577 rifle next to rook is 375 2 1/2 inch royal with a extra set of 28 bore paradox barrels with a seperate fore-end. I have managed to get boss&co to build a 375fl sxs double with extre set of 303 barrels using same foreend it was a lot of work to contour the barrels to suit 1 for-end instead of simply supplying a fore-end for each barrel.

See my earlier question on the express sights leaves. Are the positions of the folding leaves reversed on the larger larger calibres for recoil reasons? ie the recoil direction makes it less likely to drop a raised leaf?
Can you tell me something abo, it it doesut reloading for the .297/250?
I have a Victorian Colonial Police Martini Cadet which I believe is in that chambering. The engraving of the calibre on the barrel is very faint. Therefore my "belief". I did have the calibre changed for the registration from what it was bought as it does appear to be .297/250. I registered it as I wanted everything above board before one Senate election even though it probably passes as an antique. But I wanted to get it shooting anyway.
Originally purchased just to be a wall hanger. If I don't get it shooting, should get it deregistered so it could go on a wall again, instead of the safe.

Ah my slow internet where my typing outruns my PC and internet connection speeds ....
I was asking, can you tell me about reloading for the .297/250? As I have one.
What sort of brass is used? Loads etc? Projectiles, I assume lead bullets maybe specially cast?
Or otherwise where do you source ammunition?

I can tell you about reloading for the 297/250, and the .297/230 for that matter. Nobody seems to know what the original .297 cartridge was, possible Belgian, but I think it failed and so Mr Morris of Morris Tube fame necked down the cartridge for cadet training. I have never seen a .297/250 in a Cadet training rifle, only in rook rifles, when it became the best choice up until 1914 here in England.
Cases can be made from .22 Hornet by necking them down and shortening. Also the rim needs to be thinned on a lathe from the inside. If you PM me with your postal address I can mail one out to you there to use as a pattern. The bullet used is usually the .25 ACP pistol one, with a tiny amount of Bullseye or similar.
I run a Rook rifle event here at Bisley every April so we get to see lots of different rifles.
I suppose the double .250 is just in case the hunter gets charged by the Rabbit.....

Thanks for the info. I had better double check mine is not the .230. As I said earier the calibre inscription is very hard to see. A chamber cast might also be a good idea.
