Fishing out of Kona, Hawai'i
      #294391 - 28/01/17 07:19 PM

Booked the 23rd Jan. with "High Noon Sport Fishing" for an 8 hour trip for Ahi (tuna), Yellow Fin (tuna), Ono (Wahoo), MahiMahi (Dolphin-Fish) or Marlin.
We started at 06:00 and finished 8 hours of fishing at 2PM.
no one was catching fish - not us nor the other boats in sight.
At about High Noon we hit their favourite area- no one else in sight- at 12:15:

At about 12:30- close enough to High Noon for me.

then out of the water:

then out of the water 4 or 5 more times - what is this a Marlin Shaped Steelhead?

A while later, I was played out - totally:

Time for bed - the 4 minute climax tomorrow!

Aloha

The finial video of the last 15', leader grab and bringing it to the boat would not load. Tried last night 3 times and once this morning- no dice. Here is a very short clip of the fish at the boat.

Stu asked me if I wanted her mounted and my reply was "no I'd rather release her". Finally got it to upload.

Here's one in a book store in Kona, about the same size.

Well, one more 'adventure' off the bucket list.

Glad you got another one off your bucket list Daryl. Not a bad sized fish.

The night before we left for Hawai'i, I dreamed all night of catching a Marlin - sort of semi-awake too. This one was more work! LOL

Only way to beat that fish here in BC, is with a giant halibut off the coast and that is probably not going to happen.

Good one mate!
Bet one of those big halibut would give a good fight - not so energetic as a marlin though!

Just a thought- clicking on the video might bring up access to the rest of the folder via arrows on each side - does for me.

halibut just pull hard - straight down - tough to being up to the surface, as they seem like a large flat board.

Too, they must generally be killed before bringing them into the boat as they are very strong and will/can wreck a boat from the inside. Many halibut fishermen use a .410 or 20 bore shotgun, shooting them on the surface, then gaffing and hauling them up into the boat.

I should note here, that I was gasping for breath and was very shaky on my pins. I could barely stand, needing support & played out as I was.

Oh Wow Daryl! That is an awesome fish! Congratulations.

Just showed my wife your pictures and she asked if I want to catch a fish like that when we go over to Hawaii. I didn't say "oh duh!" but wanted to,

Said "sure" instead,

She said get the details-Daryl quick while she is in the mood give me the details.

here's the last communication DD - The day was SPLENDID!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Daryl...

Thank you for the reservation. You are confirmed for a full day fishing charter on Monday, January 23, 2017. . The rate is $795 plus tax or $851 total. There are no fishing licenses required in Hawaii. For payment, we prefer cash following the charter but also accept Mastercard or Visa. Gratuities are always welcome for exceptional service. We do not need a deposit.

Please reply to this email so that I know you have received this confirmation, thanks! Then, when you arrive in Kona just give us a call to check in for your charter. At that time I can give you directions to boat, time to meet, what to bring, etc. Our number is 808-895-3868.

Honokohau Marina is the sport fishing harbor and is located 2 miles north of downtown Kona between the Kona Airport and downtown Kona. High Noon and Kuuipo are located on the south side of Honokohau harbor in slip G-13 and 14 right near the set of restrooms. We provide ice, coolers, all fishing tackle, etc. You should bring along whatever you want to eat or drink during the day as well as suntan lotion, sunglasses, hat, etc. For your convenience, there is a great little deli store located near my boat where you can pick up food and beverages prior to the charter if you don't bring from hotel/condo.

Thanks again and we look forward to fishing with you and Tracy on January 23, 2017.

Thank you for your exceptionally fast response to my request.
YES - Tracy and I would like to book the 23rd. January for a full day - for ourselves. We both fish here for trout and salmon using both gear and fly rods, (mostly flyfishing) - so perhaps more, smaller fish might be preferred on lighter lines.
I've spent long days trolling here and although any day fishing is a good day, I'd rather get into more fish than one big one, if you know what I mean.
Of course, what's biting, will determine type and style of fishing at the time! I'm really getting excited about this and ono, tuna, dolfinfish all strike a cord with me. WOW- champing at the bit here. A big Marlin - well that would be super, wouldn't it!
Thanks again for getting back to me.

bit about us:

I'm 66 retired Peace Officer - bit heavy but stable and fine in boats, Tracy is 62, retired Lab Supervisor and in wonderful shape - also fine in boats. I think we'll be just fine.

Daryl Sapergia

I should also note - Stu told me a fellow usually has to make 5 trips onto the water to catch a Blue Marlin. 20 minutes later, I was fighting mine. These boys have a favourite 'line' to troll for these fish. No other boats were in sight. Stu and Jah were the guides.

These two boys were the only boat to catch Marlin this year and they caught 2 of them.

I said in the conversation with them, I preferred more smaller fish, but I just have to tell you, that fish, although almost killing (physically) me, finished my trip for me - I was so 'chill' (satisfied) for the rest of the trip, it amazed my wife.

edited to include:

Had we not booked a full day, we'd have been fish-less.

Just for info, if Daryl or DD who ever come Down Under, Marlin can also be fished off Queensland.

Great fish Daryl. I have as much problem getting videos to load sometimes as you to upload them.

Well done Mate. A big effort too. Why it is called Big Game Fishing.

The leader grab video is 54 meg. - another is 66 meg. and yet another is 225 meg.

Seems funny, when my first computer's capacity was 4 meg.
