They were good rifles. Originally used with a cloth patched balls, later with a hollow based Co. Minnie style bullet - 410gr, I think, IIRC.

Yes, the article in GUNS AND AMMO does a pretty good job on this..about 4-5 pages long..

Not my gig, but fun to read about...
