FN AKAH 30-06
      #291497 - 06/12/16 06:39 AM

Hi,

I have recently bought this rifle from a friend. His father, a NAVY officer brought it from Europe in the Sixties. Almost unused, the barrel pristine but some slight pittings in the outside. Seems to be well made, nothing fancy. A working rifle, as you can see in the pictures. I put a Zeiss Victory 2,5-10x50 Ret 4 in a Warne Weaver type bases and rings. The whole package results in a very well balanced one!! I like it!
I have, also, a NECG Peep Sight for Weaver type bases. I show you pictures with this as well. But a few days ago I received a Redfield base (for a Browning BRL, I don't care for the base but it is an old one finelly machined), I bought because it has that little peep sight Redfield used to offer in the past. I think I will use this peep attached to the rear of the rear base. Neat arrangement!!

The FN action has a nice original adjustable trigger, working like the Winchester 70 Pre 64 one.
The action and barrel in the chamber zone have the usual Belgian markings. Below, in the chamber area, there are stamped FN AKAH. So, I suppouse AKAH had something to do in the rifle. In the middle lenght of the barrel it has Made in Belgium in the left side, and Chrome Vanadium in the right side. The barrel is not chromed. Can any of you said something about the maker of the barrel...?

Shooting the rifle with Hornady 180 Interlock flat base and Nosler Partition 180 grs also, with IMR and Accurate 4350, R 19 and R 22, loades at 2750-2800 f/s, the accuracy es very good: around 1"/100 meters and 2"/200 meters. Good enough to me !

Best Regards and Merry Christmas!

PH

Nice little pick up mate!
Seems a very slim rifle, will be easier to carry if you do a lot of miles on foot for sure.
Handy having a peep as well - just in case you drop the rifle

Hi 93x64,

Yes it is. The barrel has a medium weight contour. But the stock is very slim and add to the relatively light weight of the rifle.

Very neat looking rifle with a slim stock.

I do like the alternative of using a peeop sight utilising the rear QD base.

Does the peep need resighting in when change over to?

If not, a good arrangement.

Very nice. FN made excellent Mauser actions back in the 60s and their rifles have always been very highly regarded.

Hi NitroX,

Yes, the peep sight doesn't change the setting once adjusted. As far as I know, this NECG sight is made by Recknagel.
But, as I said before, I am in the process to put the Redfield little peep sight attached to the rear face of the rear base. It is a permanent one, folding and unobtrusive, and also with some vertical and windage regulation.

This is the picture of the Redfield peep sight.

Albrecht Kind (Akha) is a large gun dealer in Germany. They had rifles assembled for them in the '50 and '60s using FN actions. The one pictured is a Supreme, (400 series) similar to those used by Browning and of course in FN Hi-Power rifles. The trigger and safety are same as Browning and FNs and it retains the Mauser bolt stop.
