A prestigious name like "Jeffery" or "Westley Richards" engraved on the barrel would have done nothing to improve appearance, handling or function, but would have certainly doubled the price imho.

This is my recent acquisition, also from "no name" maker, with British proof marks on both the barrel and receiver. One of the marks reads .375 EX., which led me to believe that it was a converted .375 Nitro Express. However, the load it was proofed for is clearly not that of a .375 Nitro Express, and it is marked ".375 H&H Magnum" elsewhere, and accepts .375 H&H cartridges.

Amongst Rifles their Mauser and mannlichers that have Dickson, Alex Henry, Army and Navy etc etc. Ditto for shotguns, both box and sidelock.

Often you do find guns that got into the market unsigned. Why - a customer needed it now, a dealer needed the cash, or where sitting in stock when gunmaker retired or went bust. In the 1950's through to the 70's Parker hale sold a lot of rifles this way. William Evans, William Powell and others are all still doing this, with guns from Italy, Spain and elsewhere.

My rifle definitely pasted through the same shop as the OPs, it has the same pattern of checkering and the proof marks are identical. The differences being the trigger guard/magazine assembly and barrel configuration.
