My Long Ranger, has a New Dress!
      #290602 - 21/11/16 08:47 AM

G'Day Fella's,

Here is a link to the Nosler forum, with some details and images of the new stock on my Rem 700 MLR rifle. Sure, this is not what you would normally expect to see on the NE forum but I like all types of firearms, both 19th and 20th Century, Traditional firearms and modern 21st Century variants of these...especially if they Shoot!

Interesting rifle, Homer. Not my cup of tea, but still quite interesting. I watched a guy make a slightly elongated hole with 3 shots today at the range - 100 meters - using a Savage .338 Lapua & Sellier and Belliot factory ammo.

G'Day Fella's,

Yes Daryl, and your not by yourself, as these are not everybody's Cuppa Tea!
The thing that impressed me about this stock is, it is just bolt in and shoot, no epoxy bedding etc, which some stocks (chassis etc), still require.

The .338 Lap Mag seems to be another .222 Rem, in that they all seem to shoot!
Thank You for the tip on the S&B .338 ammo!

I did have problems holding this rifle steady on the flat front sand bag, on this bench rest.
My normal BR has a concave shaped top to the sand bag, and this or a bi-pod would have helped steady this rifle a bit more. Next time.................

G'Day Fella's,

Thank You for your kind comments 93x64!
Yes the Pic Rail on the bottom of the forend, and the flat topped sand bag, did not help.
As I mentioned, my other BR has a concave shaped top on it's sand bag, which would have helped, I'm sure.
This rifle in the original factory HS Precision stock (once I epoxy bedded it), shot a 5/8"-16mm 5 x shot group at 100 meters. This group, included the fouler shot from a dead clean barrel! The remaining 4 x shots from this same group, went into a bit over 8mm center to center........ and I aint no BR shooter!!!

That's an interesting chassis. I'm working on a build using an MPA chassis (http://masterpiecearms.com/shop/mpa-ba-competition-chassis/) for precision rifle series shoots. My DTA is awesome for the long range stuff but it isn't the best for barricades. I'm planning to base it on a .243 improved.

G'Day Fella's,

SharpsNitro, thats a nice looking and well thought out chassis stock.
The .243AI is a real flat shooting, beast of a cartridge!
With so many Best Quality 6mm Barrels and Bullets available, it makes it a lot easier to get a Tack Driver!
Looking forward to the report on the completed rifle.

Regards
Homer

Sexy looking rifle, but is there no way to mount a bipod on it?

How are licensing issues with the .338 Lapua in the ACT?

G'Day NitroX,

Yes it has provision to mount a Bi-Pod but I need to get one, that attaches to the bottom Picatinny Rail. The mate that made the stock www.gcpdarms.com , has a very well made (I can't remember the brand?) and business like Bi-Pod, and I'll probably get one of these.

Yes John, we now have a new Deputy Firearms Registrar (DFR), (we had the village idiot that was previously there, moved on...), and the new DFR is not only A Total Professional, he is not Anti-Gun!
So since he took over, I have been able to transfer this above Rem 700 (in .338 Lap Mag), from my dealers license, onto my personal F/arms license (go figure that one out?). I have also only recently, transferred a Savage 110 BA (also in .338 Lap Mag), to another local resident. So things are good here in the A.C.T. at present!

Regards
Homer
