.303 rifles on driven hunt in Sweden
      #290576 - 20/11/16 09:25 PM

Hello

I guess it is not very often that two .303 British rifles are on a hunt together these days, especially not on a driven hunt in Sweden. But yesterday my BSA Lee Speed .303 had company of a beautiful T. Bland .303 falling block rifle. No shots where fired from these though, but otherwise it was a successful hunt.

Both rifles seem to be made very close in time. They share the exact same rear sight base and many other details are similar. The barrel seem also to be the same.

The Th. Bland rifle is built on a Field's patent action with a highly modified operating lever. Another Field's patent rifle with the same lever treatment, but by Sauer & Sohn, Suhl, is shown in Jim Cate's Sauer & Sohn book.

Thanks for your kind words!

Here is an article where the Bland rifle is featured. Written in Swedish though:

Very different that single shot from what I've ever seen before!
Great to see those old girls still doing exactly what they're suppose to - to bring home the bacon.
Shame it didn't work out in this case, but even if you didn't fire a shot; a day out in the bush just relaxes me no end.
Hopefully next time you'll get lucky

I'm a bit reluctant to admit this but the older I get the less I care about actually killing stuff when I go hunting. For me it's much more about the rifle I take, the solitude, the environment I'm in and the trials and tribulations along the way.

I love hunting with a .303. I can't really explain why that is but I do.

The two rifles featured in you photo are real beauts. Thanks for posting.

Plus one for lonewulf's post, although in the UK opportunities are scarce

Excellent Fields patent, I had not seen this mod before

Many thanks for posting

The older I become the more I enjoy the classics. Both are very good rifle and would be a pleasure to hunt with.

Great looking 303. Nothing like hunting with a single shot on a driven hunt. Now that is sporting.

Some more pictures from the hunt. It was a beautiful day! A moose calf was shot, and some 4x4 adventure was needed to get it out:
