The most difficult bird to shoot
      #2890 - 21/05/03 03:12 AM

There has been a lot of debate on the most difficult or dangerous animal to shoot but what about the most difficult or elusive bird to shoot. The Americans may say "turkey"and down here it is the chukka partridge but what about Aust. or NZ or Africa and Europe.

probably dodo`s or moa`s would be tough lol.

I have shot snipe before and they can go a bit especially if the first shot misses.

I agree with Gryphon, probably the Japanese or Manchurian Snipe.

Unfortunately not on the legal game list anymore due to an International Migratory Bird treaty with Japan.

Lightning on wings.

On the legal list, probably the woodduck when there is a couple of hundred pair of eyes watching for you on the top of a dam wall.

Here in the states, I think the toughest bird to shoot is the Morning Dove. A small target, gifted with esp sailing along with a 30mph tailwind is tough. If you can bag 5 birds with a box of 25 shells, you're average.

My voice just got 5 octaves higher thinking about it. Two other tough birs here in the northeast are the Ruffed Grouse and Woodcock. The sit tight in the thickest of cover, then explode out at top speed. Very challenging targets.

The toughest bird to hunt as far as I am concerned is the Crow. This is an extremely smart bird that works well as a group. How many other birds post sentries? Sean
