Antelope open 2016
      #288901 - 11/10/16 12:57 AM

Opening weekend of Pronghorn antelope and bird season...Wife and I traveled to the other side of the state..spent a little time outdoors..great weather albeit a bit warm..had a great time...

Wife got her antelope about an hour into the season..we did a 40 minute stalk..go to within 142 yards..shot hammered him with her 22-250.

Got mine later in the day using the 26 Nosler--using Berger bullets (never again)

Got a couple sharp tailed grouse on the way back to the camper..

Nice heavy horns on those, Art, especially your Wife's. Good shooting by her, as usual.
I see the Berger didn't exit, as usual.

Correct on all accounts..Bergers are not the type of bullet I would ever use again for game...would make an excellent terrorist bullet however..

This was my first experience shooting them myself..have witnessed others use them on elk..similar results...will shoot them out of my 6.5/284 and 26 Nosler but only for target..not game..

My experience has taught me beyond any doubt that Burger only makes 2 kinds of bullets.

#1 very accurate target bullets labeled as target bullets.

#2 very accurate target bullets labeled as hunting bullets.

But Burger makes no hunting bullets at all, no matter what lies they try to tell us on the lable or in their manual.

Good goings. Great looking animal. Is there a way to tell how old are those?

Thank you..

As to age, I am sure there is, but I am not aware of it..don't think its like the rings mountain goats or sheep get as these guys shed the outside every year...so by mid-November is hard to tell the bucks from the doe's other than the bucks have a black face typically...

Pronghorn are unique as they are the last of their kind..they are not related to any other species that I am aware of....they are the fastest animal in N America..something like around 55 to 60 mph..incredible eye sight and great hearing...they are one of my favorite animals to hunt, rifle or bow...

Oh now that is unique! Haven't seen anything like - makes sence on aging them then...thanks, quite eye-opening - I always thought they were growing horns constantly during their life time - like Chamois - that reminds me of.

Also pictures here speak volume:

http://www.onthewingphotography.com/wings/2012/11/06/the-horns-of-pronghorns/

Their body size is quite misleading out in the open (to me that is) - they look quite bigger than they actually are...

Well I am glad I have learned something new today - thanks!
