James Julia October auction
      #288875 - 09/10/16 05:06 PM

I was surprised to see that 3 early Hoffmans (.505, .404 and .375) failed to make the low estimate (or reserve if lower) and an early GH .375 Mauser sold at $6.5K against an estimate of $8-10K. A very nice Niedner mauser also failed to sell. But, surprisingly, an early G&H Springfield which appeared to be pretty ordinary, went for $12K. A nice Mauser Type B in 7x57 went for $6K, but a Type B in .30-06 (with a higher estimate) went for only $3.5K.

I think we're in an era of lower prices.

I noticed that too, I won a Rigby in that auction and I was shocked at the low price (in context) of the winning bid. A brand new H&H boxlock with case and accessories went for $4,000! It was incredible.

I'm tempted to make offers on the Niedner and one of the Hoffmans - will think about it. The Niedner is really sweet to my eye.
Did you see the cased Woodward bolt rifle in 7x57? It did pretty well. Still don't know what happened with that $12k G&H springfield. All I can figure is two guys wanted it and didn't particularly care about the price.

I didn't bid on anything as there was nothing I just had to have (at least at the estimated prices). I'd have to check but I believe the Woodward 7 x 57 went for $12K excluding commission.
