Nothing wrong with the caliber as it's been working like the Timex watch for close to a hundred years. If you're new to the S.A. autoloader (NOT SEMI-AUTOMATIC--A Klintonista term) game, take the time to enroll in one of the many good schools available to learn your gun. One thing, the ONLY proper way to carry a 1911 copy is to carry it Cocked and Locked; ie, round chambered, hammer cocked, and the thumb safety on (fully up position). If this scares you, then get another gun.

It all depends on what you're going to hunt. If the gun is properly set up with stronger springs (firing pin spring, heavier recoil spring), then it can be a very good 50 to 75 yd gun with a good 200 gr bullet that has a flatter trajectory than the 230 gr load. Mind you, Lee Jurras and his pal George Nonte have shot at game at 100 to 150 yds with a 45 ACP using the then new SuperVel factory loads w/190 gr bullet. I still use a 45 ACP with proper loads (200 gr JHP at 1050 f/s or 200 gr cast semi-wadcutter at 1100 f/s) for game of opportunity. Ex-Ranger Captain, Chuck Taylor has used his 45 ACP with good hunting loads for deer, boar and black bear. Jeff Cooper himself has shot numerous critters with his 45 ACP.
