Cool!!!! I love these little pistols. I wish we were able to use them in places other than a government sanctioned range. They would be wonderful to bring along for adventures in the bush for hunting grouse. In Kanuckistan, it is highly illegal to do so. Damned pity.

Really?? I had not idea it was that restrictive up there...

Well on the dim side, dont think Hillary and the gang would LOVE to do the same down here and much more...if she wins, there will be gun sales in this country like we have never seen before..even though Barry has caused record gun sales for something like 10 straight months...nobody knows what these liberal dimwits will attempt next...

Yessir. You watch your collective backs down there!!!!

In Canada, all firearm ownership is a criminal offence. As a firearms owner, one must be in possession of a possession and acquisition license which fundamentally is a permit to possess illegal goods. Lose the permit, and you are an automatic criminal.

We can't even fart without a half dozen safety courses and close to a $grand spent doing it, plus for handguns, one must be a member in good standing at a gun club. Even then, handgun (aka, "restricted firearms)ownership is highly controlled. We need a special authorization to transport in order to go to/from a government approved and frequently inspected range if heaven forbid, we want to shoot the pistol. Stop for a pack of smokes along the way, and you are subject to arrest and jail time for not taking the most reasonably direct route to/from the range.

Many firearms are outright banned. A basic DWM Luger is considered "Probibited" because the barrel is too short, I.e. Less than 105mm in length; .32 and .25 caliber handguns are also prohibited. A small handful of lucky souls are grandfathered and are allowed to own prohibited firearms, but I am not one of them because I didn't happen to own a short barrelled handgun when bill C68 was brought into law by the Liberals (Canadian version of a very left leaning Democrat)

Socialism is a very serious and debilitating disease indeed and I say a prayer every night that our American cousins do not suffer the same serious affliction as we in Canada have contracted.

Overall, crime in Canada involving firearms is not a pervasive problem for the general population however there are frequent almost nightly shootings in some of the predominantly black neighborhoods, Jane and Finch, Flemingdon Park, Regent Park, etc. Just this morning, they showed a handgun on the news recovered at a Flemingdon Park shooting, a revolver with a 2" barrel..... I guess nobody told them that their handgun was a prohibited weapon.

In Canada, everybody gets the same basic free education at least through to the end of high school, and all non cosmetic medical costs are covered, basically everyone gets a reasonable chance at success and nobody starves. So WTF???? Are there social or cultural issues at play in some segments of Canadian society???

Excuse me, I must stop typing, so I can go and fill out my renewal forms for my possession and acquisition license, get my passport photos, beg my wife and ex girlfriend to fill out their sections and sign the forms so that the government can do their background check including consulting them to see if I ever raise my voice on occasion thus should be denied my permit and have my rifles and shotguns confiscated. Yes, to be a legal gun owner here truly requires a passion strong enough to put up with a great deal of bullshit, but the criminals being criminals don't really care about the ever more restrictive gun laws. The Liberals though will continue their anti gun crusade to ensure that guns don't exist in the possession of legal and law abiding citizens, but in some segments of our society, the beat goes on.... unaddressed by ever more restrictive bullshit laws.

WOW---sorry for being so uninformed as to how bad it really is up there..

I have traveled up there on many occasion. I used to live only an hour away from the border in N Dakota. Went up there early in my career as your drinking age was sooner there than back in the USA..

Have since driven several times up to Banff and Calgary area..love it up there.actually had laser eye surgery there in 1999. We have gone hiking, back packing etc..

Guess next time I have better not conceal my handgun I usually take along ..

Seriously, the last time I was up there they held me for almost 3 hours going through my car..not knowing it was actually a mid engine..so they didn't know the front was actually a trunk storage area..it was the 4th of July weekend..and they were pulling every 3rd car off to the side to check out and seemed convinced I was smuggling something.. I actually did end up taking my wife to the ER while there..cost me $850 cash ..and basically knew no more than when I got there..so we loaded up the car and drove back to the US for medical treatment..

BTW--be careful of those farts..hate to see you loose a firearm over a bowl of chili

Hi Ripp:

My apologies for hijacking your thread. I lose my mind sometimes when I contemplate just how little freedom we law abiding folk have when it comes to firearms and particularly handguns.

Mid engined cars are very cool. Almost bought one myself but went rear engined instead. Freaks people out when you go to the front of the car to retrieve your range bag.... I suppose the mid engined version would be even more befuddling with two trunks, one in the front, and one in the rear!!!

Anyhow, was at my favorite gun shop today, but they don't have any of the new Ruger MK 4s to fondle yet. Reading some of the comments at the end of the link you originally posted about the PITA cleaning effort of the older ones reminded me about how I used to run my slab sided target version until the crud got so thick the darn thing just wouldn't run anymore, but it took a LOT of shooting to get it to that stage.

You are not hijacking anything..enjoy your posts and input...and yes, like you, I fear the direction our nation and the world may be taking..fear more so for my children...but rest assured, each one will be handed a brand new AR-15 as they leave the home to go on their own..my farewell and be safe present so to speak..

Yes, the border guys were under the seats, took my key chain apart, took luggage out of the rear trunk..it was crazy..have never had anything like that happen before going up there...went back a couple years later, nothing...so no idea what that was all about??

Have a great day and KEEP buying guns..

An AR as a leaving home present? Would you be ok with adopting me, at least for a little while? The border cops are usually pretty good to deal with... Short, direct, yes/no type POLITE answers, and you're quickly on your way..... Sounds like they were looking for someone or something ...... Intelligence of some sort??? Who knows? Anyhow, the folks out Alberta way are good people...... A bit too much infiltration of late from Libtard Ontario, but by and large they are good folk.

G'Day Fella's,

Wow, Thank You for posting and Nice!

I have an old (first model) 22/45 version of this Ruger pistol.
I purchased it, to do a conversion and make it into a suppressed pistol but thats yet another project........
I want to replace the barrel with a barrel stub (length?), that has a short length and the rest of it being the suppressor. What I'm getting at is, the suppressor would be a permanent part of the barrel but would be no longer than the original factory barrel. And hopefully only 4" long....ish.

Doh!

Suppressors? Very good idea. As they say, "a gentlman's accessory"!!

In the frost bitten north, they are of course a prohibited weapon, possession of which attracts very harsh treatment from the justice system and long jail terms, unless of course you are a gansta thug knocking off 711s........

I think that they are a wonderful device for hunting and should absolutely be allowed. The neighbors and non hunting folk are sometimes aghast and offended by the sound of gunfire, so it would seem to me a rather polite thing to do to be able to reduce much of the noise of a gunshot....

Good thread - enjoyed reading, except for Postman reminding me of the draconian laws we have.

Just kidding - well done PostmMan.

When Bill68 hit the streets as law, I only had one handgun that wasn't a prohib. LOL.

Funny thing is, THEY have never come around to check on my storage which is or isn't an interesting 'thing' - it's always a thread, I guess. Best to have at least 2 locks between the open air and the handgun. They are SO dangerous, after all. LOL

Often was the time, back in my Corrections Firearms Inst. days, that I had a couple extra handguns (with no paper work) in my locker. I did some work on our instructor's 'service revolvers', as in polishing actions and bores & strip cleaning.

Forgot our cleaning kits (6" bl. Smith M10's) on one trip down to the Justice Institute for training and ended up going through almost 2,500rounds of cast handloads with ZERO leading. The J.I.'s cleaning kits were for 4" - our 'service' revolvers were 6". Those were the day - almost "easy" to shoot possibles all week.

Now, the only .38SPL. I have is an old Colt Police Positive. It's the best Double Action revolver I've every used, for firing DA, that is. It's as easy & accurate to shoot DA as SA.

G'Day Fella's,

Thank You for sharing Ripp, Postman and Daryl.
I hope I haven't hi-jacked this thread!

Nice one Ripp!
If only Daniel Defence, used my patented sound suppressor/"Cans" design.......
The overall length on my .223/5.56mm (Ditto for the .300 BO and 7.62x39)"Can" is 115mm (4 1/2"), and they extend only 100mm/<4" past the muzzle. That would make for an even more compact DD M4!
