Wanting a paradox gun
      #286862 - 24/08/16 11:48 AM

Being a complete novice to the paradox guns, perhaps I can get a bit of help and ideas. I understand the concept being a ball and shot gun, but what are the key differences between them and a slug gun? I have been reading thru many of the posts here, and has gotten me to thinking. My absolute favorite bore size is the 16 and considering my primary goal would be smaller big game perhaps I could get some info on where to start from those more experienced than I. Now as to the actual loads that are used, could I get a description of some of the loads many here use? I am used to loading for rifles but this will be a new experience. So please pass along some info to a newbie in paradox guns.

Josh

There is a lot of info on these forums about the subject. Search it all.

The primary difference between a Paradox and a rifles bore slug gun is that the paradox is only rifled for about the last 2" of the barrel.

I have been reading through every post I can find. Definitely a wealth of information in here. Could anyone offer a suggestion to a good donor action or gun for a paradox build?

Holland & Holland still produces them. Check their website. A true Paradox will be somewhat difficult to build as the rifling is not standard. Here is a pic: http://www.hallowellco.com/paradox_boring.htm

What would one recommend for a lower budget paradox? Preferably a 16 or 12 bore. Would a hammer gun be better than say a box or sidelock?

This one is a fully rifled Bore gun. Also a 12.

I have to agree with this also. I am personally not interested in any DR without exposed hammers. Opinions may vary.

I completely agree with that statement. I would love a hammer gun above all else. I will check the above guns out

Careful with Lefaucheux-type actions. They lack the strength for heavy loads, but work just fine for BP type loads.
They are rather nice to operate.
Husqvarna model 20 shotguns have this style of action.
