Mauser action
      #286599 - 19/08/16 06:32 AM

I found a nice double square bridge Mauser action that is listed as an intermediate length. Not sure of the going price but a nice example. http://www.gunsinternational.com/guns-fo...un_id=100722450

I've seen DSB Mauser full rifles going for that price.

I thought the price looked awfully high, but having not looked at many I was not sure. Thanks for the info on the price.

Big rip off. You can see that both bridges were drilled and filled with weld and that the checkering was touched up. The proof marks were polished and the action was reblued. There is significant pitting. Worthless as a collector action. 12x the price of a clean FN or quality military action. A lot of junk is sold on line and not in person.

Thank you for the heads up. Things I will have to keep an eye out for in the future.

G'Day Fella's,

Joshua as nice as it is, be a little wary of this, as it looks to me that it have been reworked and refinished?

If you look, you can see where the receiver Ring and Bridge have been Drilled and Tapped and then had Plugs installed, prior to re-cutting the metal checkering.
Also, the checkering on the receiver ring, looks nonuniform etc.......

Hope that helps

Doh!
Homer

D'oh!, I just read Wanabebwana's post, highlighting the same info to you.

Regards
Homer

I don't know why they settled on that asking price and apparently they will not come down.
As casper50 said, you can find an entire rifle with that action - better even - for less than what they are asking. My own 10.75x68 DSB Mauser was consigned at a shop for exactly one year at over $1K less than what they want for that action with no takers. A lot of interest, but nobody bought it.

joshua,,,,call gary he is a good guy he's been doing guns for a long time and i have bought many rifles from him including a perfect 303 rigby that been seen here and that was in 1987 so he's been around ,,as far as it being perfect there are not many out there that are ,,the right gunsmith would bring it up to par no problem ,,besides it needs scope bases in those square bridges anyway thats what they were intended for ,,like you said you haven't seen many and you won't dsb solid walls are scarce if the right builder gets this action that will be the key to it being a 7k gun or a 25k gun ,,the problem is there are new actions on the market and to build from scratch a custom rifle i don't think in the long run it matters if it were an original dsb solid wall or not ,,it is worth a lot more as a complete original gun from mauser than what i think you could build ,,good news is if you were to ship the action overseas to dorleac or whomever it should be ok seeing it doesn't have a thumb cut which are not importable,,tho i could be wrong .....paul

Hi Joshua,

Here is the Osprey Arms website. I do not see this DSB M98 action on it, though...

http://www.ospreyarms.com

The phone and email info. is in the 'Contact Us' section.

I purchased an English boxlock shotgun from Gary several years ago, BTW, and was very happy with the transaction. Not a bargain, but it was in very good original condition with almost 100% case color remaining.
