Brenneke 9.3x64
      #286357 - 12/08/16 07:57 AM

Ok I am in the mood right now today to have my Mod 70 338 Win mag as the platform for the 9.3x64 build.

Gunsmiths is this a faultless conversion,IE easy, simple etc? Any inherent perceived probs to encounter?

Does anyone know of anyone that has the appropriate reamers/tooling to do the job?

PREFERABLY in Victoria.

Hi Gryphon,
The boltface on the 338WM is too big. The 9.3x64 uses a standard 30.06 size boltface. Quite possibly will have to modify mag box and follower as well.

The 9.3x64 has a slightly larger boltface than the 30-06 at 0.496" versus 0.473", therfore you would be best to start with a 30-06 type action.

I have Husqvarna m640 (older version with barrel band rear sight) which, in the beginning, was 9,3x62. I bought it because some gunsmith has converted it to 9,3x64. Seems that it hasnīt need much work i.e. easy project for anybody who wantīs m98 with 9,3x64.

So it is easy to convert the 9.3x62 to 9.3x64?

What work needs to be done besides chamber?

Rechamber & a little bolt work, maybe some magazine wall tinkering - maybe not. The magazine might work as it is.
a Mauser action would be much easier than a post 64 M70 or Remington with spring-clip extractor and button ejector.
The post64- Winchester's with pre-74-type actions would also be easier than the push-feed actions.

gryph have you thought about a modern 9.3. Buy a Rem in 338 or 300RUM, have it rebarreled to a 9.3/338 or 9.3/300RUM. The slightly shorter 338 case would be the go. Then you would truly have long distance Sambar rifle.
