Can anyone in Australia own a handgun?. I thought that many years ago they had to be turned over to Government through a buy-back-policy?..

You gun battery from Purdey and Boss surpasses beyond what dreams are made of...it´s like it´s another dimension humans yet are forbidden..:LOL

Thanks for the battery descriptions again. I was loosing track of what was what!

Purdey 200 year battery of 9 -
- sn 31022 22 hornet single shot side lock rook rifle,
- sn 31056 5.6x52r double,
- sn 31300 300h&h fl double,
- sn 31303 303brit double,
- sn 31375 375 h&h fl double,
- sn 31500 500 double,
- sn 31600 600 double,
- sn 31028 28 bore sxs,
- sn 31010 10 bore rifled choke gun with a set of 10 bore smooth bore barrels.

Boss battery of 6 -
- sn 10300 b/a takedown rifle 300 h&h,
- sn 10356 o/u double rifle 5.6x50r,
- sn10375 sxs double 375 h&h fl with a set of 303 barrels, 375 h&h is a rounded action.
- sn10328 sxs 28 bore,
- sn 10410 o/u 410 bore,
- sn 10320 o/u 20 bore. 375 h&h is a rounded action.

Purdey battery has 2 x Anderson wheeler revolvers sn 31357L & 31357R to be engraved by the same Purdey engraver using Purdey rose & scroll.

Yes any licensed law abiding person can own a handgun. However generally they must be an active pistol target club member attending usually at least six competitions per year (in SA anyway) backed up by the club's report each license renewal.

Other uses can include some states allow for example professional hunters to be able to use a handgun for backup purposes, eg I believe the NT and Qld.

Some states allow farmers and other farm workers to use a handgun for farm use, the properties generally must be quite large, I forget the SA minimum, in the tens of thousands of hectares. Other states may have different standards. The reasoning here is it is easy to carry a handgun when doing farm work, and harder to have a long arm. On large properties it may not be feasible to return to the homestead to get a rifle, eg to put down stock.

Security company staff, but only during their working hours.

Handguns can not be owned for self defence, or self protection. If a eg a break in occurs, a firearm may be appropriate for defending oneself depending on the circumstances.

Handguns can not be owned for hunting. Maybe the NT ? Someone can correct me if I am incorrect.

The 2003 handgun "steal off" (buy back) banned handguns less than a certain length. Also restricted most handguns greater then .38 calibre. Some sports are still permitted large calibres eg metal Silhouette, and "Action Match" competitions. We would very much like to see IPSC again have access to .40's and .45's. Will see if there is any positive or negative progress in the next few months when the National Firearms Review recommendations are finally released.

Magazines of ten shots or less.

All due to the excuse of one Chiness foreign student using a handgun to shoot between three and five persons in 2003. Another excuse used by the gun banning vultures ...


But lets not dwell on laws in this thread, and instead enjoy Ahmend's wonderful battery. About to post the next installment.

Boss 5.6x50mm R Under & Over double rifle

Smallest caliber Boss o/u ever built. 5.6x50R. S-N 10356 part of the battery of 6xBoss guns, will be 10 years from start to finish.

The first double rifle I shot was a 5.6x50 mm Rimmed in Under and Over. The other barrel was actually a .22 Magnum.

The 5.6x50R barrel was capable on three shot/one hole accuracy. The .22 Magnum about 30 mm at 100 metres.

The rifle was brought to Australia by a German guy living near the East German border at the time, and worried about a war. Brought stuff over to Australia for a second home, just in case.

This rifle brand was "Frankonia" so obviously the retail chain had some rifles made up for their own branding.

Wore a very inappropriate 4-10x50mm scope in see through mounts. Very hard to shoot accurately as the scope was way to high to use the cheek pad.

I think this 5.6x50 mm R under and over Boss will be an extraordinary rifle and well worth it, and useful on all sorts of smaller game species.

Im so impressed by these 2 projects im having trouble putting words to it. Im very grateful that you Ahmed are willing to share this journey with us and all us forumists should realise how priveliged we are to be a "part" of the journey.

This has been an extraordinary privilege to see the making of such an amazing collection of beautiful handmade rifles and guns. It is a treat to see just one being made these days.

I am looking forward to seeing the steps to their completion, and shooting them!
