I have one of these, on a P14 action. Seems hardly used, and l haven't fired it.
I was wondering what it was worth? Any ideas?

I think you need a keyboard - or it is rather difficult without - same with a phone.

I sent you a PM with my e-mail address on it.

That looks great. I like the quarter rib.

Do you know how much to weighs?

Is the forend checkered?

Cheers, Chris

No checkering on the forend, weight is 9lb or close, l've been told, l haven't weighed it myself. It's in storage in South Africa with a friend.
My intention is to use it in its original low vel loading, on moose in Sweden. If l get a decent offer, l could let her go and use something more suited or just keep it and even use 10.75x68 type loads. I'd love to hear some opinions from you guys on the subject.

copy the old euro load for the 10,75x68 - 610 m/sec with a 350 grains bullet and you are fine for sweden.

interesting rifle and the 404 is much easier to feed today than the 10,75x68

That;s a great find. I already have a 404 but would love that one, the P14 action was a good one and I like the safety on them. If I bought that rifle I would have the fore-end checkered just to 'even it up'. The RWS steel jacketed 350gr projectiles shown below would be just the medicine for moose in that rifle.

There was a period when Mauser rifles and contemporaries were produced without forend checkering. A styling option l suppose. Note also that this example does not show cross bolts. An extra under barrel recoil lug was considered sufficient. I had a 425 WR done in this way too. No splitting apparent on either rifle, but l would like to add period appropriate brass cross bolts if l keep it.
I'm toying with the idea of letting it go, because l have a cogswell and Harrison 375 with cocking piece peep sight that l really like and prefer. The idea of keeping white elephants / safe queens bothers me a little. Hence the original question of what is it worth to a collector.

P-14's make really nice 8x68S - buddy Keith still loves his, after 40 years.

He also has one in 6.5x68!

I can only assume in this instance, it was Vickers themselves. However they might have outsourced it from BSA or Parker Hale. There are no markings to indicate more accurately, but historically all of these manufacturers had working relationships from time to time.

When converting the .303 to another calibre what do you have to do with the rimmed extractor to convert it to a rimless type??

Nothing, if it's a large case head cartridge like 404 or a 300h&h. If you intend to use a standard cartridge like 30-06, then it's better to find a P17 bolt somewhere

Just grab an M17 Extractor as designed for rimless cases. The P14 303 extractor is designed for Rims. Both are the same action just different extractor, locking lugs (minor difference P14 has more meat at the front so a better bolt if using case heads bigger than 404) and of course the feed rails.

Guys, thanks for the comments. My original question though... What is it worth to a collector in today's market?
Any idea?

Just never see these, so there's nothing to compare. Basic working models are around, but a hand built sporter, just nowhere. Maybe that's a good thing, but still....how to arrive at a value?
