Flip it's bad enough hitting a roo, that critter is huge.

Guess you need a moosebar in those areas

Wow! They didn't show it walking away.

I nearly cleaned up a mob of Giraffe in my 4wd in Tanzania. Scared the crap out of me! Have photos of them streaming around the vehicle after I stopped, from 80km/h, straight out of the nyika and didn't see them. Didn't notice the zebra with them until I stopped.

Roos can do an impressive flip off the bull bar, but nothing like that moose!

Surprised it did so little damage, but running as it was would assist in the flip and damage reduction - perhaps. If standing still when hit or only walking, it may possibly had joined the driver inside the cab, due to the height of the vehicle.

The moose is seen walking down and out of the ditch on the left side of the film, after the accident.

The first MVA I investigated back in 1972, was a fatal VW-bug - cow moose encounter. The cow got back onto her feet, ran down the ditch and jumped the fence. She'd quite crushed the V-dub which killed the driver.

Thanks Daryl, viewed on a bigger screen and saw it. Amazing!

I would imagine a high likelihood of impacting the passenger cabin, like a horse, given their height.

May have walked off out of shot, but I wouldn't bet against it suffering a broken leg...

The internal hemorrhaging & likely broken ribs might not heal
either.

I would be very surprised if that moose didn't either die shortly thereafter or be taken out by predators while being in an injured state...they are very tough..but if wolves are around, its over...

I saw that done to a whitetail in CT one morning, flipped the deer at least 15 feet up and 20 feet off the side of the road. It stood up, shook it off and kept walking..

A close friend of mine had the misfortune of hitting a calf moose ~ 20 years ago somewhere along the stretch between Sudbury and Espanola. Cow and calf crossing the road in darkness. You can't see them at night and their eyes don't reflect in the beam of headlights like many animals do.

Anyhow, the front end of the 1/2 ton pickup truck was smashed all to rat shit as was the calf that had to be dispatched shortly thereafter by a passer by. He was super lucky he hit the calf and not the cow otherwise I might be visiting him at the cemetery vs the bar.

I've only hit a roo and a calf on Outback roads. The calf went under the vehicle after hitting the bull bar and we put it down. The roo bounced off and to the side. I could not find it in the dark as it must have moved off.

That moose hot was spectacular, but I doubt the poor beast survived it even if it did walk off.

Same thing can happen with cattle in the outback. Worst of all is hitting a came;. As they supposedly easily end up on the windsreen and cabin. One reason most non trucks do not drive at night.

My brother-in-law hit a black bull here in England one dark night. All he saw was one leg just before he hit it. His Vauxhall / Opel/ GM Cavalier was a total write-off whilst the bull was fine. The farmer who had not maintained his fences properly was never prosecuted....

When a young cop in Smithers, B.C. back in 1972, I was instructed to charge anyone hitting horses or cattle, with "driving without due care and attention" under the motor vehicle act.

Back then, BC, at least the North, was pretty much 'open range'.

There was no charge for hitting moose, bears or deer.

I investigated my first Fatal MVA there. A fellow in a red VeDub Bug hit a cow moose standing broadside on the highway one evening. The cow flattened the front end of the car right back to the rear seat, crushing the driver. According to the witness, the cow then got up, shook like a wet dog, jumped the fence in the ditch and trotted off across the field & into the bush.
