Merkel 140 Disassembly Photos
      #283219 - 02/06/16 02:29 AM

I recently disassembled my Merkel 140-2. I decided to take a few pics, since there seems to be a shortage of these on the web. Hope you enjoy!

I assume the 20 ga and the 470 look about the same underneath. Pretty cool how simple the mechanism is in these guns.

This is my first double rifle. I have a bad habit of needing to study how all types of guns operate. It took me awhile to make up my mind to disassemble such an expensive gun, but I had to do it! I've had it apart 2 times now, and the second time it only took me 10 minutes to take apart, and 12 to put back together. So, it's a pretty easy operation. Not bolt action easy, but not too bad either.

Thanks for sharing this information and taking the trouble to post the photos.

I had to take apart my .500NE Merkel 140-2 to manually tension the safety spring. It came to the point where the safety would shift to the "SAFE" position with the first shot - very inconvenient. Now it works fine.

I also found this disassembly to be relatively straight-forward, if you have some experience in disassembling an A&D boxlock. Here you have a throughbolt, but that doesn't make it very much different.

The hardest part for me was removing the bottom plate screws. They were TIGHT! But, was able to get them loose with the correct thin blade screwdriver. The rest was straightforward as you say. Overall, I am pleased with the precision machining and fitting of these guns. Mine is perfectly regulated and very accurate to boot. Not sure how a Heym is worth $7-10k more....
