Unfortunate for both - mostly for the bear. When folks run the Tumbler Ridge Marathon here (my wife included), helicopters are used to fly the ridge and scare the grizzlies away from the run-zones, so the 500 to 800 runners are in no danger of attack.
On the other hand, I am not convinced that people should be running in these types of areas.

Maybe it would be best of ONLY liberals and anti-gun / anti-hunting types were allowed to run.

They could all be required to keep a piece of smoked salmon in their pocket or pinned to their shorts.

If nothing else we may see some new speed records.
