Oberndorf Reclamation

Last year I purchased this Oberndorf Mauser in what I believe is 7x57 (I haven't done a chamber cast yet). Someone had affixed a rib to the original barrel and changed out the bottom metal/triggerguard with a non-original military piece. Sadly, it appears to have had a light polish on the action and re-blue and the bolt was heavily polished and poorly checkered. It came in a 60's US made aftermarket stock (possibly a Fajen). The price however, was right. I changed out the triggerguard with the metal from either an Argentine 1909 or possibly another model of 98 that I had laying around. With some minor inletting for the guard, I did my best to recontour the stock in a more original Oberndorf sporter style. But alas, I was limited by the aftermarket stock's shape as well as my own poor skill. The result, I felt was more befitting of the barreled action and I will have it to the range soon to see how it shoots (after the chamber case of course). Pictures...

Really nice finish on the stock, however, I would not have shortened the forend that far.
The mud they had on the stock, sure hid the grain. Looks good now.

How long is that barrel? It looks enormous!

Thanks for the comments guys. The barrel is only 23.5", it's probably my poor photography skills that make it look so long.

As I suggested on another board, your bolt handle may be an aftermarket replacement that was welded on.
This may account for the bolt root polishing and near removal of the proof marks.

A nice rifle nonetheless.
