Jena Zielver Rifle Scope

Dear All. I recently bought a brand new so-called Jena Zielver rifle scope and scope mount at a pawn shop in France for a very low price (Euro 50 or USD 55); it was the only item of this kind. It is steel-made, all jet black without a single scratch, and manufacturing looks quite good. The reticle looks to be a kind of European number 4 and the left horizontal bar is not exactly aligned with the right one, and is slightly (but just slightly only) above it. Optics quality is not bad. I am now wondering whether this rifle scope is a real WW2 German one (in that case it would have been stored in a drawer just after leaving the factory), a more recent one manufactured in the former DDR, a recent Ukraine-made one (http://kievcamera.net/product.php?id_product=63) or maybe a Chinese copy? Any light or personal experience welcomed.

have two Zielvier




one is a pre war SN 23201 that was recycle in the 1960s/70s for a Haenel airgun




and the other is a post war Zeiss /Jena SN 119003 without the name "Zeiss" on my Mosin sporter



you see that the engraving on your scope is not like this. it was new to me that there is a new made copy in the ukraine made for 98k shooter http://kievcamera.net/product.php?id_product=63

it seems every scope get an own serial number, here SN 54643

here on ebay http://ebays.com.ua/catalog/show/121338631180/
with SN 60030







so I would say what you have is such a ukrainian made copy. the optic is probably good like the WW 2 stuff because the biggest problem than - to make the lens - is easy today because of modern machinery.

paying 50 euro for this including the side mount seems not a bad business
