MS 1910 New to me Today
      #282929 - 26/05/16 09:38 AM

Just got the Model 1910 today take down, and looking at the markings there are no german marks only British.
ser. # 894 no other than -05, +05. and the lone # 6 beside the front lug. Does anyone here have an idea about this? Also marked 375 EX 43 Cordite 270g MAX. Have a pic but don't know how to post on here. My email is sdvc244@gmail.com
And Yes I'm from Ft. McMurray awaiting the green light to return, sometime around the 4th of June I hope, my place was spared but 60 other trailers gone, only 16 of us survived out of the entire court of 75.

I trust you will get great joy from this rifle!
I just bought myself a carbine take down 1910. Due to South African Law, it's going to take a while before I can take her home, I can't wait to take it to the bush!

Wonderful little rifles these 1910 Take Downs!

My rifle has British markings as well, including "Cogswell & Harrison".
One thing that puzzles me is how difficult it was to pull the pin holding the stock. It came out reasonably stiff once, but after inserting it again, it just would not budge... I don't want to force it, but not sure how much work it should be to remove it. The spring is still working, so just depressing the little leaf on the inside does not release the pin as expected.

Any suggestions?

Rgds

Try a little lube once it's out, is the barrel fitting tight?

Update on my 1910 Take Down,
Pin had to be removed with a lot of effort initially but it seems to become more compliant the more I use it, the smoother it becomes.

I made a few pieces of brass from 8x57, 9.3x57 and 30-06. So I went to try the rifle. It is a lot more fun to shoot than I expected. MV was a bit on the low side for the load. I am busy making virgin brass so will re check MV once I have new brass made & loaded.
The rifle was printing way to the left, and once I lifted the 300m blade, I noticed the lines for zero was way off. So, with a brass punch, (Sort of, I could not find one, so used old brass shell as a punch) and lots of care drove it back to alignment.
Now I am just desperately hoping to get time to get out to the range again!

Rgds,

Congratulations on your acquisition.

I, too, have a Mannlicher Schoenauer M1910 factory Take Down. It was my Grandfather's previously. She's a joy to load for and shoot.

The +.05 on your receiver and -.05 on barrel are assembly marks to ensure proper chamber length (mine has +.15 -.15).

The .375 EX. 43 Cordite 270g MAX (mine has same) indicates a recommended diet of .375 Express (.375 Nitro Express Rimless) filled with 43 grains of Cordite and a bullet weighing a maximum 270 grains.

For brass, try fresh .35 Whelen. I have used that with Hornady 3715 (270 grain Round Nose) and a set of RCBS dies to make exact dimensional duplicates of the original DWM 531. Cut the .35s to the proper length after running them through the FL die.

Otto Schoenauer's magazine is a lovely bit of kit, but is rather particular as to what it's fed.

The magazine is machined to accept the exact length, shape, and profile of the proprietary MS cartridge for the specific model. For the 1910, that was DWM 531. Make your reloads to the exact dimensions of DWM 531 for a smooth, effortless feed. Seat the RN projectiles to the exact proper depth (right at the cannelure with Hornady 3715). Use of spire point or other shapes or lengths of bullet may allow the cartridges to shift and bind within the magazine.

I and others have posted a lot of information and photos to thefirearmsforum.com regarding Mannlicher Schoenauers.

I can't seem to get photos or scans to load to this one.

My takedown pin on my 1903 can be similarly stiff on occasions. Sometimes being fairly easy to remove/replace, at others for no reason I have been able to detect, very stiff indeed.
The spring on the pin is intact and the pin well lubed. But, it makes no difference at all.
Confused? I should say so.
I can't work it out at all.

If the timber moves a small amount due to temperature and/or humidity changes then position of the holes in the stock and the hole in the barrel lug will change, making it either harder or easier to install and remove the pin depending on what the alignment is like at the time.

I had considered that aspect Waidmannsheil, but though I think it could be the issue, sort of ruled it out on the basis that the line up is metal lug on the barrel, to metal fitting in the stock fore end. The pin fits through & clicks into place.
Sometimes a hard insert, other times easy. Same with extraction.

I guess humidity must play some part, but wonder how much that (slack/tightness of pin) affects accuracy consistency.
Sorry didn't intend to hijack this thread.
