Ribbed barrel

Gentlemen, I was looking today at a 1935 Steyr catalogue and there is one page devoted to all the custom options that were available when purchasing a new firearm. One option was a ribbed barrel. Has anybody ever seen on or have any pictures of one. I have a soft spot for Mannlicher Schoenauer rifles and spend a lot of time looking at pictures, catalogues and real guns however I have never seen one with a ribbed barrel. Thanks in advance.

I have a 1910 Model M/S made before WW1. It's a rifle w/about a 26" bbl.
The bbl has a full length rib on it. Looks to be original to the rifle from the markings on the bottom.
I haven't had it in the light of day recently.

The stock is now a 1/2 stock, but I believe it was a full stock from the faint line on either side of the bbl ahead of the wood indicating a wood line and indication of a muzzle cap.

The bbl is marked w/ H. Barrella (sp?) , Berlin ,,the retailer I assume.
A German (re)proof mark dated 1913 on the right side of the bbl just ahead of the rc'vr IIRC.

Scope mounts (claw) and 'scope no where to be found.

I bought it from an elderly gent who said his older brother brought it back from Europe after WW2.
That may explain the cut stock (duffle bag cut).

I was going to fill in the clawmount dovetail and rear mt holes, but have an '08 w/ scope and mounts that may give up it's optics for this one. The 1908 wasn't fitted up very well to begin with so I'd rather fix up the 1910 with them.

Waidmannsheil. I acquired recently a MS Model 1924 in 9.3x62; I don't have yet the rifle, which is still under process off being imported to France. It has a ribbed barrel, and the original owner's name as well as '1937'are engraved on the rib; this rifle bears the Vienna proof house mark, but I don't know the proofing year as I have not disassembled it yet. Can certainly see why you would go to the trouble of importing that!

I too have never seen a ribbed MS barrel:- thanks for posting the link.

Useful chambering as well, probably didn't get much of a run at Africa before Hitler's war, so should still be in nice original condition.

Please post a detailed photo spread when it arrives. Love this stuff!

2152, that sounds like a nice looking gun, any chance of some photos.

Louis, looks very nice. the rib seems to scalloped on the sides for the entire length after the sights, obviously to keep the weight down. look forward to seeing some more pictures when you get the gun.
