I like the WSL rifles also and had a few derlict ones .I thought I would try something out to see how it worked ,it works wounderful .We rebarreled a 1910 from 401 wsl to 360 DW and had to rework the weight and mag to feed a rimmed cartridge .Nice thing is it about the same as the 351 wsl and it is a companion to my 357 dw supermag and as a bonus it will function with 180 gr bear load 357 magnun of the shelf ammo .Here are a couple of pics
Cheers Peter

Nice combo! What is a .360 DW?

Can't say i've ever seen a Winchester SL rebarelled to anything! Did you have to change any of the weight system or did it work fine?

I want a .401 some day

That's quite an undertaking, - well done - Feeds and shoots .357's as well. Bravo!
Those old WSL's have a certain charm. Maybe it's the uniqueness of that plunger - action opening rod.

The WSL rifles are interesting in that there are no stamped parts in any the firearms works ,the mag is hydroformed from one piece no weld seam.Follower is machined with a front roller pinned in place.

We rebarreled a total of 5 in different calibers to see if it could be done ,the projecte were all to far gone for any worth while restoration .In excellent condition they sell for 700 to 900 it appears now and restoration costs well over that .

We made 2 in the 360 Dan Wesson one with a new barrel and one with a 351 barrel and there is no difference with accuracy or fps over the crony.Had to add a ramp to the mag follower to feed rimmed cases, reduced the breech block weight to cycle properly .The DW is the same across the crony as the factory 351 wsl ,only advantage is that it will shoot store bought 357 magnum if need be at lesser volicty.

the other abominations are a 44 auto mag on a 1910 ,and in 1907s a 30 carbine and 338-223 short .At the end of the day there are no advantages over the original chamberings except for a set of unique rifles that I have that others won't due to time and cost .

Peter

Ever since reading a G&A article on the .401 back in the 60's, I've wanted one.
