That's definitely a nice one. I'd bet my bottom dollar that he was shot some time ago in the past. From what I gather, they don't get to grow that big anymore with today's hunting pressure and some poaching thrown in.

Isn't that a Giant (Angolan) Sable? If so, I think they are on the Endangered Species list now and cannot be hunted.

Until recently they were thought to have become extinct but at least one herd estimated at up to (If I remember correctly) 200 were found last year.

The hope is obviously that they will now increase in number and possibly limited hunting will be allowed at some time in the future.............but boy will they be expensive!!!!

If you look to the left of the sable there is a photo on a stand. This photo looks familiar and has done the rounds on forums maybe a year ago.

There was a 50+" sable shot last year by one of Adam Clement's clients --- Zambia I believe.

1949,huh! It's amazing how that full-bodied mount has retain it's shape and no hair falling out. I guess there's some kind of stuff that can sprayed on to preserve it. The pic just reinforces the fact the Sable was HUGE, with his hand holding the one horn.

Unbelieveable.

Thanks for posting the photo. It is a different one to the one I was thinking of.

Has not Tony Sanchez Ari^no related the hunt of this gentleman?

May be, there're several books relating that hunt.
