Husky in .358 norma mag

How popular is this round with members here? If someone is looking for a said rifle in that round, simpsonltd has one in stock for 395.00. The stock is pretty rough and will need replacing, but still a very nice and worth while rifle. I will post the link if anyone is interested

I would carfully refinishing the stock and give it an english rubber pad. excellent rifle for the money only need a good scope into the old claw mount to get what possible with the forgotten 9mm Magnum cartridge.

I would put a far straighter stock on it if mine,whether wood or syn.

A problem with my right eye has forced me to try to learn to shoot from my left shoulder. As a part of this project, I acquired a left handed Ruger 77 in 7mm Remingont Magnum and had it rebored and rechambered to .358 Norma Magnum. The barrel is a bit light and tends to overheat if fired repeatedly, but otherwise a fun rifle to play with.

I used mine (ZKK602 BRNO) in 1973 for shooting coyotes - worked a treat with 250gr. Speer and obsolete 280gr. Hornady's. I really liked the 5+1 capacity.

Why so heavy D?
It would shoot a lot flatter with the lighter pills as you know.

I agree with gryphon, but if I were in an area with larger more dangerous game I would be loading the heavies too. I have often thought off and on about doing the norma on a springfield, and replicating the old griffin and howe rifles of years past. With talking to my local smith, he can get me a side mount and take care of the work, and have to admit the offer is very tempting. With that in mind, the heaviest bullet I would care to load is the 250 grain variety.

Nice rifle and a good cartridge. I too would restock with a stock more suited to using a scope. In bear or dangerous game country I would run the Woodleigh 275 grain PP. I have found the Speer 250 grain bullets good at 35Whelen velocities and too soft for large game at Norma mag velocities.

The 250 Spitzers and 280gr. RN's were each running in the 2,700fps range and both worked splendidly on coyotes. I was shooting from 50 to 150yards and lighter flatter shooting bullets were quite simply, not required. My other alternative (also used) was my .458 2" with 400gr. FN's & Spitzers at 2,150fps - again, out of 150yards, NP on coyotes.
